not working on new macbook pro

by //prime.cut on 03/20/2011 18:22, 21 messages, last message: 04/19/2011 21:31, 6378 views, last view: 05/05/2024 06:27

Hey yall, Sauerbraten fails on my new Macbook Pro, it ran fine on my crappy intel X3100 on my old macbook, but when I run Sauer on my new Macbook Pro the game isn't even playable. The FPS is fast and steady, but the screen tearing is unbearable, I can't tell what's going on, does anyone have a solution to this? I miss playing sauer soooo bad if anyone could help me out I honestly could front you like $10 on paypal, THANK YOU!

My solution:
Get windows, sauerbraten never failed on it (at least to me :P)...

Where's the damn money xP???

anyone? I don't understand why it won't run right considering that all of the other games I play use OpenGL too and run fine

As said by eihrul in a previous comment, just put vsync to 0...

wtf suicizer, eihrul didn't say to disable v-sync, he said to enable it. Disabling v-sync is more likely to cause tearing, even supposing maxfps is not set above 60.

If it's "tearing" with vsync on then can you post a picture/video showing exactly what you're seeing so we can be sure we're all talking the same talk.

im not sure exactly why, but vsync doesn't seem to kick in on osx unless you either put -v1 in the advanced options section of the launcher or reset it ingame every time you start. try the first of those, if you've just been checking the little box in the gui.

thanks notas but that did not change anything, I took a short video of some gameplay, here is the link...

That's certainly not a vsync issue - it looks more like a fucked up driver or shaders problem. If its a new macbook pro then I must assume it's relatively up to date in terms of OS version. It really should play fine on this model.

I suggest:
- try downloading and installing the game again (maybe you've somehow corrupted some options/files?)
- try it with shaders turned off (if that works then experiment with different graphics options).
- try other games and see if they work (maybe you have a hardware problem?)

I have already done all of the above, games like Half Life 2 and Team Fortress run absolutely fine, so I have no idea why a game like Sauer won't run properly. I have reinstalled the game 15 times, nothing changes. I feel like I've tried every fucking possibility for graphics setting but no success. I fucking miss playing sauer, and yes rabbit I am up to date with OSX 10.6.7

Might not be the case, but check to see what value forceglsl has. Try changing it and see if there is any improvement.

i turned on forceglsl and it got rid of the "screen tearing", but now certain objects and walls of the map flickr on and off repeatedly depending on what the mouse is aimed at. Slow progress is developing to the cure haaaaaaaaaa

nevermind above post, the problem here for my graphics card is definately the OpenGL shaders, when they are disabled it runs somewhat better, but not playable. Anyone have other suggestions for this problem? I'm still fiending to fill my sauer addiction, been trying to fill the void with quake live but to no avail.

P.S. the paypal payment for a solution still stands true, BUT I WILL GIVE YOU $20 noww, for realizies guys I love this game so much so excuse me for whining like a little bitchh.

ugghhhh time for a spliff XD

#20: MacBook Pro

by SleepwalkR on 04/19/2011 10:35

Is that a 13" MPB or a larger model? Because the 15" model has a Radeon HD 6490M with 256MB GDDR5 and the 17" model has a Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB GDDR5 that takes over for the Intel HD Graphics 3000 in 3D games. Maybe your problem is somehow related to a driver problem with those. Previous MacBooks had Intel only and MacBook Pros had NVidia cards btw.
