Save/load selected cubes

by RPG on 01/31/2011 20:55, 46 messages, last message: 02/18/2011 23:42, 7842 views, last view: 05/03/2024 03:06

This is idea in editing.
Like copy/paste, but you can save selection on disk and load it later or use in other maps. For example, you create arch/sphere/house and want to save it on disk to use later or use on other map.

These cube "presets" will keep much time when you using geometry of the same type (arches and ladders for example). You could "save" house/ladder/shere from one map and use it in your own map. Very convenient.

Is there any complete solutions?

I think it's possible to create preset library of houses, laggers, spheres, circles, arches and so on like mapmodels, but based on octree geometry.

/loadpreset sphere_4.oct -> put in cursor sphere of radius 4 (just suggestion).

Works fine for me. But one suggestion:

Wouldn't it be nicer to select a preset in the menu and then get into a "put presets here mode".
Where you just have a selection with the size of the preset and then can press a second button to insert the preset where you move the selection? It wont "surprise" you with the grid size of the preset, and inserting the same preset several times would also be easier.

Sorry, I couldn't translate your post, my English is not too good. Can you say the same in a simple way?

I just understand, that you want to get selection before you paste preset.
Presently preset puts in cursor position (I've kept ideology of natieve copy/paste).

If you know Russian, you realize that Google gives paranoid delusions, which is difficult to understand not just without a hundred grams, but also a potent substances.

Thus, the Russian text pushes in Google transliteration and get...

As you see I tried to use google tranlsate:)

For better understanding I will translate the text back in English:

He said: "Works fine for me. But one suggestion:

Would not it be better to choose a preset menu, and then enter into "put preset mode here."
Where you just choose a preset size and you can then press the second button to insert a preset where you move your choice? It wont 'surprise' you mesh size of the pre-programmed and pasting the same multiple times will also be easier. "

Postscript to use Google Translate to translate. -_-

Ok, it's time to release. Here two modded binaries: Win32 and Linux32.

Hotkey F7 may not works, to fix that add into your config.cfg:
editbind "F7" [if (cleargui 1) [] [showgui presets]]

RPG, i would not advise that they edit their config.cfg, but rather their autoexec.cfg (if that have one) if they don't have one, they can make it.

I'm thinking about adding binds and menus into "menus.cfg". What do you think?

we say "do not modify menus.cfg unless you have some major rewritting in mind".

Write your own CFG, exec it from autoexec.cfg. Usually that's what's done.

1. Install patch (including new source and binaries) - see readme
2. Select cubes you want to save
3. Press F7 in game to open presets menu
4. Open tab where you want to save preset
5. Input preset name and press "Save"

RPG: always make sure to add information inside a GUI so people know exactly how to use this.

Never seen help inside sauerbraten menus. All help in docs on this site.

Readme contains some info about patch.

you fail to see the point, people who want to save a preset may not know how to, that's what one or two lines of words will explain. -_-

Could you explain how to save preset in two words?

you guys are subconsciously trying to flame each other, or at least annoy. and i think RPG already explained how to save a preset in #39. if he's added docs about his mod explaining its usage, then its all good, if not, then a simple txt help file would suffice.

I can add "help" tab into mod menu.
