'Animated' Magma Texture

by Pieter on 11/11/2010 19:19, 6 messages, last message: 11/13/2010 06:50, 1398 views, last view: 04/16/2024 09:13

I made a new magma texture, and I wanted to try to make it animated.

Since Cube doesn't support animated textures I made a huge texture with all the 256² frames stacked into a 2048² size texture.
I was thinking about having it scroll in such as fashion that it appears as an animated texture.
Now I was wondering, if it were possible for vscroll to have both a pixel step and interval variable?

e.g.:
*offset 256px right every 0.125 sec
*offset 256px down every 1 sec
this would mean it would move through 64 'frames' at 8 fps.

I guess it's impossible to animate it this way in the current release?

Here's the texture:

I'll release it as CC0, so if anyone wants play with it, be my guest :)

actually, this looks more like redish blobs littering a red background than magma. my perception could be wrong since i can't actually tell how this would look when animated.

yeah, something went wrong with the packaging of the frames, they seem to be sequenced wrong and the dimensions were off slightly too, causing things to be misaligned. It's more a proof of concept anyway :)

See animation shader. Dunno if it still works.

also see the <anim> texture command in redeclipse.
it would probably be as follows for this texture

texture lava <anim:256,256,125>magmatex.jpg
texture 1 <anim:256,256,125>magmatex.jpg
