Regen capture lack of depth.

If capture was played on a few server, it wouldn't matter, as it's not the case...

Strategy in regen capture is simple :

shoot red things;
if you have ammo :
goto gray/red base and camp;
else :
goto blue/gray base and camp;

advanced strategies could be merged with weapon guide :

- rifle is nearly useless : at long range, you may need 3 shots to kill a camper because of his regen (which mean 2 or 3 seconds to react and get cover), and you have a maximum of 15 shots. A regen camper may even own you with his 25 damage pistol (lower dps, but if he has regen...) You'll get bored quickly. As a defensive weapon, well, the better defense is attack, you know... It may be used to snipe naked spawner, but that would be useless because respawn time is zero, and your frag count doesn't help to win the game.

- shotgun is fine. It deals up to 200 damage per shot, and you could stack 30 ammo. It's the only weapon that can kill anyone in one blow, it's perfect for point blank shooting in a camper's back. Some map give nice opportunity to sneak and stab campers. You are rarely out of ammo with this weapon because it's just hard to survive long enough to use them all. It's the perfect backup weapon : just wait a few second near a shotgun base, and you'll got the few rounds that may save your life when running out of ammo.

- rocket launcher : the king, maybe. Only 15 ammo, as the rifle, but the radius damage and the explosion blow are perfect to wreak havoc and spread panic near a populated base. For the same reason, it's not the weapon to defend with : that's exactly what a bunny hopping shotgunner would expect. Also, it's not a direct hit weapon, which make it harder to use in an open field. People use rockets to bomb enemy base from their's, but it's often ineffective. As it come from the same spot, red guys just take cover. if a rocket manage to hit them, they just have to wait a little longer for regen. It doesn't contest the base (which stop regen, btw) so it has a small impact on the game.

- grenade launcher : as the rocket launcher, but it does less damage with a stronger blow. Even worst on open field, the grenade is also slower than the rocket, so it could be dodged more easily.

- Machine Gun : 30 damage per shot, 10 shots per second, and 60 ammo max. You've got the higher DPS (300) of the game, but it won't last long. You need at least 7 bullets to kill someone in green armor, that's far from instant kill. Ammo are depleted very quickly, so you better have a backup weapon.

Advanced strategies doesn't add anything to the basic strategy defined above. It's just refinement. But as nobody wants insta capture, weapon are an essential part of the game, and define the value of the different base. Is there anything more in this game ?

In order to win, a team have to capture all base, which nearly never happen because either a red guy will respawn near an undefended base and capture it, or naked reds will be successful at defend/contest their last base using the zero second respawn time to their advantage. For both attacker and defender, it's no fun. A team could also win because it has a better score, but that's not really funny. On some map, like asteroids, there even exist a winning strategy : get the rocket base, using shotgun if necessary, then take all base except the machine gun one. Now it's just a matter of holding it, during the last 10 minutes of the game...

Ok, what about teamplay ? It's a team mode after all. In fact, teamplay occur by coincidence, or because a lot of player are camping near the same base when it is attacked.

Also, I miss bonuses from original capture. Why not bring them back in regen ? Quad, healthboost and yellow armor could make nice secondary objectives (maybe quad is a primary one).

At least i do want insta capture, it was a great mode!
Even tough, i got nothing to say about wich mode stays in a next release and wich not (quiet fair to me at the moment, actually)....

The grenadelauncher fires faster (reload time 0.5sec each) than the rocketlauncher (reload time 0.8sec each), it only does less dps...
