Change pistol damage from 25 to 35? Discuss.

So, people have been grumbling at me that they would like to have the pistol do more damage and be less useless.

So my proposal is this:

Increase pistol damage from 25 (4 hit kill) to 35 (3 hit kill). To compensate, players would also no longer start with 1 grenade anymore.

What I would like discussed is if you support this, or you have opposition to it. Please do not clutter this thread with other proposals or ideas, as they will be ignored. Thanks.

as i said again, if you want to tweak the pistol, there are only 2 good options.

1) raise damage to 35, slow down its rate of fire considerably to like 2 shots per 1.2 secs.
2) lower damage to 20, increase rate of fire and starting ammo, add a bit of loss to the aim (similar to that of the minigun, but less)

I support this. Particularly the not starting with GL part.

However, I'd think a faster rate of fire would make the weapon more satisfying to use. But alas, there are gameplay implications to consider with that...

Keep it the same please. It's quite fast already. In FFA there aren't any armors to be picked up at the start and frags come quite quickly with the pistol and other weapons. So if it was changed, pistol would be quite too powerful imo.

yea, pistol is really useful to those whose aim is better than an aimbot, aka you >.>

on a serious note though, pistol feels really slow, taking note at how modern ones work. its damage is resonable. its fire rate feels crappy. its aim feels too centered for handgun. see suggestion 2. raising the power of the pistol would be bad, considering bots and the mass of players who would use it after that, but you would also have to slow it down considerably, or less assuming you mess with its aim.

and why the heck should the grenade be removed o.O

Damage is fine. But slightly increased firing rate and slightly less accuracy would probably make it feel more like a handgun.

Adding my opinion: Change something. Increase damage or rate of fire (and maybe add some cg-style inaccuracy), but right now the pistol is less than useless.

I'm actually inclined to the higher rate of fire myself too. Perhaps make it so it's not (semi-)automatic like we did in RE.

Or maybe (and this was already suggested):
Pistol damage ~20
Pistol speed ~125%
Pistol accuracy ~80% (And bots skill with it maybe decreased more.)

I revoke my earlier comment after considering this more. Perhaps faster rate of fire would be better...

I think the pistol was originally balanced well before the release that changed movement speed. Now its harder to hit ppl b/c we all move so fast and jump more (for speed boost).

Playing water edition again really reminded me how much slower the game used to be. Easy solution, just slow the next edition down a little. O:]

And add ponies.

Yeah, but MOUSE2 is much slower, more in line with how it currently is in Sauer.

Perhaps the rate of fire could change depending on how fast the person clicked. The faster the player clicked the more inaccurate the bullets. The slower the player clicked the more accurate. If he held down the the fire button it would fire at normal rate and with normal accuracy.
Increasing the amount of damage the pistol deals would be a bit annoying and throw off gameplay.
Also, starting with one grenade is handy as well. ;)

i think it wouldnt be bad to make the pistol does 30 damage and grenade does 75 damage (when hitted directly; 75 damage, when hitted just inside radius of blast, 70 damage)

At this moment,when you spawn with another player, it takes 4 shots to kill that player or 2 shots and 1 grenade (it sometime even takes 3 shots and a grenade). Because its unprobably your hitting that player with the grenade directly, it takes more time to use 2 or even 3 shots and a grenade to kill that player, than just using 4 shots of pistol.
This makes the grenade pretty useless for receiving at respawn.
The grenade is unbalanced against other weapons anyways, like the rocketlauncher or machinegun. It has a very nice firing rate, but its far to unaccurate to deal some serious damage as a stand alone weapon (I'm taking the situation where both players arent chasing each other, but arent hiding itself either).
It would make the grenade more usefull either, because you barelly see it's getting used on efficiency matches (compared to other weapons) just because its low ammount of damage it deals.

ok, to make it more understandable:
pistol => 30 damage
grenade => 75 damage when directly hitted, 70 damage when indirectly hitted (by using the explosion)

why?
at this moment;
4 pistolshots = 100 damage
2 pistolshots + 1 grenadeshot (if hitted directly 71 damage) = 121 damage
3 pistolshots + 1 grenadeshot (if hitted indirectly 43 damage) = 118 damage.

when using 3 pistolshots and 1 grenade shot (wich is more common than directly hitted), it takes more time than just using 4 pistolshots.

after changing;
4 pistolshots = 120 damage
1 pistolshot + 1 grenadeshot (if hitted directly 75 damage) = 105 damage

for efficiency or tactics, grenades would be more "efficient" to use, because they arent like a secondary weapon anymore (because the lack of damage).
