Wow - first thing that startled me about Cube: great use of all the Quake II 3rd party player models. I loved the Rhino as a little monster shotgun badguy, and I laughed out loud when I saw Slith (an old fave from my Q2 days).
First thing I noticed then, tho, was that Slith is missing his weapon models. For those of you who missed him in Q2, this is a horrible tragedy - Slith had the coolest weapon model set on any Q2 PPM.
So, I ask: will weaponmodels or even vweps (weapon models changing per-weapon) ever appear in Cube? I'd look in deathmatch, but everything happens too fast to see.
Also, how does one change the user player's model/skin? Is it possible? I can't find out how.

You'd better had put this into the "most wanted features"

Can't. The most you can do is change color in Quad.

If you have the time and talent you can download Quake 2 Model Editor and make any changes you like to the monsters tris.md2 files. There is one exception and that's the Hell Pig his model is extremely small and "special" features in the source require the model to be that way.
q2mdlr9b.zip is the file and you can find it using Google. It is freeware and works with 256 color skins. This engine is very flexible you can do anything with it.

Already played a lot with replacing monster models... the only thing you need is converting the skin file to skin.jpg
Searching for a Linux command-line tool to convert PCX to JPG and eventually make some script to convert and install Q2 models into Cube
(ie mv rat rat.orig ; ln -s newrat rat)
For the hellpig, it uses different anim frames numbers so unless using some model editor to adjust the order of frames you can't replace this one.
