Suggestion of improvements of the engine for next releases

by FrenchBadPunk on 04/21/2010 05:45, 8 messages, last message: 04/22/2010 14:04, 1644 views, last view: 04/05/2024 13:46, closed on 04/22/2010 14:06

- Improve the management of the display of mapmodels. At present, if they are not visible completely in our screen, they disappear. This is annoying because we can not animated models on big distances.

- In game, able to turn the mapmodels on 3 axes.

- Create a new management system to add "passive" bots (such as animals or passers-by). In a configuration file, be able to bind a waypoint file with behavioral parameters for bots. Exemple :
new bot = [
botwaypointfile ".../xxx.wpt"
botname "xxxxx"
botspeed 100
botweapons 0
botfear 150
...

- I also ask if it would not be possible to improve the management of the water to be able to create automatically waterfalls. For example, the engine could detect automatically the cubes of water near and, according to the configuration of their position, round off automatically angles! It would be a very big headway !

- Auto-downloading of map and content by a ZIP file.

- Power set entirely on game modes via file server configuration (weapons used, type of party, duration, mode endgame [by time or by the score], why not gravity, ...).

- Let's be crazy and why not, allow us to create and define new exotic weapons (such as, for example, firing a fire/ice, ...).
- And, of course, drastically increase the speed of rockets (it goes pale when one thinks it is frankly appalling!)

- Never give up the development of SP and its mode compatible MP
* Power use triggers and other barrels mode MP
* Being able to use bots configurable instead of enemies (SP)
* Be able to manage the speed of the animation of doors and switches.
* And why not, as HalfLife2 (older than 10 years already), have a "weapon" to 1 or 2 points for moving objects / models.

- Quite as "CryEngine", we also hope one day to have an environmental management system (time, sun, moon, to weather) but I know that it is many to ask for it.

I am think that realy good improvements will be adding Coop mode which allow play on single player maps with triggers and monsters in multiplayer and autodownloading maps in zip with textures and .cfg (but think there can be security problems).
By the way current rocket speed is perfect.

The most important thing is physics. syntensity has put it before why should sauerbraten not have it?

Because Sauerbraten is NOT a free-for-all project, it is a minimalistic (game) engine that servers a specific purpose and nothing more.

Threads like this highlight just how much people fail to (even try and) understand the project before making such suggestions.

Indeed, the biggest problem for self-downloading is the security. But how do all other games of the same genus (FPS) ??? He indeed exist satisfactory solutions, otherwise, we make nothing more, no ?

DeGrave, you're an old player and I know it is impossible to make you admit that it is unbearable to run faster than its own rockets ;) Nevertheless, we are many to complain about it.

I totally agree with Fischkopf and I'm tired of seeing the narrow-mindedness of Quinn and his friends who think they understand everything in life.

I understand their chronic conservatism but we owe fight against that. For them, CubeEngine2 is only an old basic FPS engine, a simple alternative to Quake3, that it is nothing else, that he can offer nothing moreover, only that it has to stay so and never changes.

In other words, they confuse the game Sauerbraten with the engine CubeEngine2. As I already say it, with this reasoning, in 10 years, we shall always play to kill us silly on lowpoly maps without any mapmodel (because that removes performances without bringing nothing to the gameplay).

In other words, projects like this (http://vimeo.com/939971) or like Platinium Art Sendbox are nonsense. For them, a free game and 3D rendering engine should not be used to it but only to satisfy their PentiumII addiction.

And yet, Sauerbraten might well be adapted to give a good mesh editor or virtual reality engine or football game (for examples). It is not the purpose of a 3D game engine? Sauerbraten is the showcase of CubeEngine2 and not the opposite.

I like two ideas:

+1 for automatic map download
+1 for increasing speed of rockets

P.s. I think the rest is kinda over the top, but :)

Fans are free to suggest.
Developers are free to ignore.

Maybe consider submitting a single well thought out idea rather than a long list of multiple things, that way a constructive debate can take place on a single theme.

You don't have a bloody clue, so don't presume you can classify me as close minded.

I started out right where you are, banging my head against the Sauerbraten wall, trying to get it to evolve. This was until I realized, "Who am I to say what Sauerbraten should and shouldn't be doing? They've given me the source code to do with as I want, who can ask for more?" - Thus SauerMod was born, which soon evolved into Blood Frontier - a complete game environment.

90% of this wish list is *already implemented* in Blood Frontier, and has been for quite some time; so I'd suggest playing that instead to have all the features you want, but you're too full of yourself to care. You think you can just say whatever you want and suffer no consequences; you constantly argue with the developers and moderators in the community and wonder why everyone responds badly to you. It's just childish.

I think Acord sums up the sentiment perfectly: "People who can't create, criticize." I prefer to create, and do so with a lot of enthusiasm.

What is childish Quinn is to wield the banishment when we disagree with you and we dare say. And I have no problem with people of the community. However, I must respond when people come to me waving a licensing problem without having read or should not be created that maps to lowpoly because of old computers, or when we explain that the game is perfect and there is nothing to change. If it was so perfect, its development would have stopped long ago.

In addition baby ~ rabbit "is absolutely right. And know that besides being a 2D/3D graphic designer, I am also a programmer. So I find your remark a bit easier.

<< End of this sterile discution >>

Okay, back to my suggestions, here are two picture explained better what I wanted to say about improving water :
