3D text

Hello All,

I am new to CUBE and thinks that it is a GREAT engine with a LOT of potential for a project that I am spinning up to work on.

Is there any way to have 3D text in a \"world\"?

What I need is a way to dynamically add 3D text that can \"float\" past a player or be re-scaled, colored, change fonts, etc...

My understanding is that OpenGL can easily handle this, but how can it be implemented in the CUBE engine?

Thanks,
Lonnie

It would better fit in 'Most Wanted Features'

To implement this, you can maybe use something existing that convert text to a md2 model on the fly. But i think it would be easier to create your own text rendering function -or adapt an existing one-, and attach it to a new kind of entity, adding a text property to the entity, plus a new entity type.

a search:

a comparison of different methods:

Looks like GLTT is what you want.

Thank you for posting to my questions.

I will look at the OpenGL site and then try to figure out where in the CUBE code i can work to implement something like this.

Sill being new to this code it might take a little time to get a feel for the layout, but it is GREAT code and I am going to use it in my newest project.

Thanks again for the help.

Look at the code for drawing particles, it sets up the orientation towards the screen (billboards) but in the 3d world. If you combine this with my text drawing routines, you can easily have floating text.
