Cube With Fisheye Rendering

by Nixot on 01/18/2010 20:37, 8 messages, last message: 01/21/2010 00:59, 1393 views, last view: 04/20/2024 16:59

This is insanitising.

I found on the internet an awesome mod for Cube that allows for fisheye rendering, similar to Fisheye Quake. Basically, instead of the edges being stretched when you increase the fov, the game is rendered similar to looking at the reflection on a shiny metal ball - you can see around 180 degrees around you and the edges become squashed instead of stretched. This means that what you see in front of you becomes bigger rather than smaller, and still allows for fovs of up to 360, which is pretty cool.

I'm sure that quite a few people would want to see this in Sauerbraten, and if it was implemented that would be the coolest thing ever.

I don't know who made it as I can't find a name, but he's supreme and I linked to his page and whatnot.

The source diff was for the 2002_10_20 version of Cube, but I'm going to work on implementing it into Slayer. I repackaged Cube 2002_10_20 complete with Windows and Linux binaries and diffified source.

Super cool, I hope it gets used as an option for Sauerbraten! (I mean, if they let you adjust your freaking sound channel frequencies, this is another one of those cool but unnecessary options.) Unfortunately, I can only look at the screenshots -- which make Cube look like a Christmas ornament, I'll be L-ing just not really OL about that forever -- as I'm using a Mac.

Don't know what game you're playing, but Cube 2 has options to change the number of sound channels and sound frequency, under the sound tab in settings (vars soundchans and soundfreq).

Also, we've been through the whole "I use a Mac, I'm helpless" thing in the Syntensity thread (for posterity, http://cubeengine.com/forum.php4?action=display_thread&thread_id=2268 ).

I'll just ignore everything, as I'm participating in the Sytensity Razanak thread anyway. That very discussion, as a matter of fact. Sorry if I'm acting like a hypocritical moron, sometimes that happens when I am sleep deprived (which I am). While ignoring everything, I'll respond to SheeEttin:
Yes, but I don't know anyone who cares what sound channels they're using. Do you? In my humble opinion, more people would try this awesome "Christmas ornament" mode. Just saying.
7 times 4 = stupid <joke>addition</joke>

Sorry Quin, I thought I was being a bit inflamatory... After the Razanak I kind of got a bit angry when the first response was about Macs, this happens too often :{
I'll keep quiet about it now.

Sorry, I shouldn't do that. My fault, any inflammatory posts are my fault.

I meant: "Any inflammatory posts are probably my fault."
