This looks pretty cool. I hope that you actually make it, though.

It's tempting to just close this thread until you have something more than whacked ideas.

I can't help but laugh.
Good luck writing in DX10 and 11 support. The whole engine is based around SDL and OpenGL, neither of which can I find any evidence of running on the Xbox 360.

But I'd still hate it anyway because switching from OpenGL means you're screwing over people not running a Microsoft OS.

It's quite funny to me that all the naysayers on this thread have successfully bumped it each time I've checked the forums today. Not that I agree or disagree with them, mind, I just couldn't resist bumping it one more time and therefore completing the meta-humor cycle.

#8: Re: DirectX

IIRC the scotish firm http://www.proper-games.com/ did a total re-write into DirectX .. the http://www.dot3labs.com/sauerbraten.php4 speaks of them working on an XBox title - but the link is dead - they've done an overhaul of their site (proper-games).
But - as was mentioned by NEF : only people in M$-world will be your audience.

#12: Xbox 360? Bad idea...

by LeftClicker on 10/13/2009 03:08

Instead of adding Xbox 360 support, why don't you just build in controller support? That way you don't have to go through the hassle of a fourth (Linux, Mac, Windows, +Xbox 360) codebase. Just a thought. Also, you might want to think about how much you really want to change. DirectX support, for example, will help you a ton. Does it work on Windows? Yes. Will anyone notice the graphical difference? I doubt it, and it will be a pain to see a "Download DirectX 11 here!" button. What you might consider would be integrating the app more into Windows/Mac, like instead of having a chat bar in game, have one outside that uses the Aqua (for Mac) interface. For a sort of example, press Command-F in Safari to bring up the find field. Just like that. Also, instead of having a "Load Map" part of the menu, have it dynamically load whatever it finds in /packages/base or whatever. Not everyone knows about /map, or even what the hell a CLI is. Um, what does "PS,VS 4.0 Support" mean? Or do I not want to know? "Visual Effect Support"? Have you noticed the explosions and the charring after you fire your rocket launcher? "Brand new water effect" would be nice for waterfalls and for "curving" it, like you can with cubes (Q and scroll). "Event Support", I'm pretty sure Sauerbraten has that. F3>misc>help>ents>trigger.. does that, right? "Havok like physics" means... physics? What I'm saying is, Sauerbraten needs more CONTENT, not DX10/11 support, Havok physics, console compatibility, or effects (and whatever the hell "PS,VS 4.0 Support" is). I'm sorry to seem so pessimistic, and if you can do this, great. But even if you can (and definitely if you can't), the mods community will likely reject you because your goals take away from Sauerbraten what Cube gave to it. As for your "full 32 level campaign for Cube 2", go for it. Put a ton of effort into that, then, when people know you have potential, start your mod, incorporating as much content as you can.
Sorry for the lengthy post,

#13: Load Map thing

by LeftClicker on 10/13/2009 03:13, refers to #12

Sorry, I didn't explain myself when I said the "Load Map menu thing" part of my criticism.

Instead of the Load Map part of the menu which only has the basic things Sauerbraten starts with, have it show you (with a GUI) whatever maps it finds. /map sucks for newbs.

By "curving", I meant using Q and scrolling to "bend" the corner of a cube.

Q scroll = fail
use normal.

And normal would be what? We're talking about curving/moldable water.
