now, i can understand that i may be stepping out of line here... but in most of the clans i have seen, they don't normaly post in the fourmes unless its about a problem, map or mod, or something within that... most clans get people in game-play and link through xfire, skype, and googlemail (gmail). my question is, why don't you do the same?

Some clans don't even have their members communicate that much. I haven't talked with some members of my clan (the Red clan) since they joined.

im not new to this game, but im new to getting members for my clan and communicating with em. and i dont have gmail, skype, or xfire.

well, perhaps you should get one of them, and for goodness sakes, gmail is something you don't have to download, make an account and tell your members your email to link... don't make it so hard...

any email also works, its just easier to use gmail's chat... basicly, any email will work, but for IM, i'd use sauerbraten, or gmail, or skype, or xfire... those are your best options, besides, most people on here (i think) would rather use this place to figure things out, instead of getting "clan news"...

I partly agree.
Those ways (IM, Skype) are quite handy to stay in contact with a few clan members, but if the clan is growing I would totally recommend an IRC chat room and a mumble server (or a channel on the ogros.org server for that matter), and also a forum. This is the basic infrastructure - irc for discussions, small talk and also to be connected to the rest of the community, and an internal forum where everything important is written down and discussed.
Mumble can also be used in the way IRC is, discussions and community activity.
Those ways are common in the communities I know. Instant Messaging and eMail should be only an additional mean, but not the only one.

But you do still relize, that if they want a fourm for their clan they can just use Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/

or Xanga: http://www.xanga.com/

And many other sites that allow them to place things, I even have written about Sauerbraten Cube(2) and Cube(1) and AC on my Myspace and Xanga... Please keep in mind Hero that although it is not forbidden to use these fourms as such, as I said in #6, not many people will be intrested in "clan news".

myspace is more than a social network. A clan needs a forum, clean and simple phpbb for example.

and when talking about "forum" I do NOT speak of this cubeengine forum here, just to clarify that.

granted that your not talking about these fourms... but honestly, its best to just pick xanga, its less used nowdays, not too well known, and its a faster use... but you have to relize that just because there are more people on myspace, doesn\'t mean its still not a good choice. the whole fourm idea for this clan still hits on xanga though, because they have a \"bulletin post bored\", in which you can post your own message (without having to be the owner of the domain), and its free. besides, you have to think about his rationaly, where on earth would you find a free website that you can edit for yourself without buying and paying money for, and use it as a fourm. trust me, i still say xanga: http://www.xanga.com/

within two days (less than that, its just i had to get off for a lot of the time, so it was more like two hours at most). i have already opened an xanga site (which no one has visited, because i didn't make any tags and such) and made it almost perfect. check it out and then tell me why xanga is not as useful as freewebs: http://www.xanga.com/SBCubeonline
