Do I need to do any coding to make a game?

Err... this question is really ambiguous. To make a whole new game out of Sauerbraten, yes, you will have to do lots of coding. From your question, I guess you haven't really done any coding yet. I would suggest, before making a serious game, messing around with the Cube 1 source code because it is infinitely smaller and easier to understand.

You could make a game without coding by just making content, but the gameplay would be pretty much identical, so what's the point in that?

basicly what he said is, if you are wanting to make a game from scratch or off of sauerbraten, then yes... But there again, you need to explain exactly what you mean. 'Cause honestly, we can take that like a million diffrent ways, including if you are trying to make a server, some people (not naming any names) call that "making a game".

to make a 3D game with nice graphics youll need to know:

C++
OpenGL
and shading language (for example ARB, GLSL, HLSL)

good luck with learning them

there is a way around learning everything... and that is to learn one of these things and find a few people who knows the rest of this stuff and befriend them, and later have them help you...
