Hi guys!
I'm currently working on my own urban texture set. (No promise on a soon release as I've just started working on it!)
While doing my how-to-create-good-textures-homework, googling for some tutorials, guides and examples on what makes a good texture, I stumbled over the following site (disclaimer: You should have advanced knowledge of photoshop and its funktions/filters):
http://method.gamedesign.net/texture_tutorial.htm
I believe this to be a pretty solid guidance on how to create good, to awesome, grungy / urban textures.
Have a look at it, just thought I'd share.
Hope it helps a little;)
have a nice one,
K1P57A

Oh yeah,
and just in case you dont feel like searching the plugins for bumpmaps I've put together a list of links where you can get them...
"NVIDIA Normal Map Filter" for Windows:
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html
...and...
"NMG" (an awesome little 83 kb Program) for Mac:
http://homepage.mac.com/nilomarabese/FileSharing14.html
Hope that helps ;)

I know CrazyBump, but here's the problem with it:
CrazyBump for Students $49 USD
CrazyBump Personal $99 USD
CrazyBump Professional $299 USD
Not meaning to discredibilitise you, but Im not gonna start paying licenses so that I can work with it on open source projects ;)
However anone wanting to pay for this, it's definately worth it's investment!
