Blender: Problems with UV Mapping

by K1P57A on 08/12/2009 10:09, 19 messages, last message: 08/15/2009 07:57, 1521 views, last view: 04/21/2024 01:35

Hi Volks,

im recently experimenting a lot with blender. However since I've updated my older version of Blender to 2.49 I seem to get major problems with the UV mapping...

Take a look at the following screenshot I made:

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/1685/blenderwtf.jpg

What I've done was to select my Model in Edit (A) and then simply Unwrapped (U) it. I didnt use the LSCM Unwrap since my Model does not really have a centre line I could cut it throu...

Any ideas why Blender proportions my UV map so extremely weird?

Thanks for answers in advance already,

Thankfully, K1P57A

Oh, in case someone's interested what the model looks like:

This is my first Model for SB. I tried to keep it pretty lowpoly, but I think it should look fine, once imported to SB ;)

I'd be really glad if someone could take the time to help me UV map this thing ;)

Cheers, K1

Dammn... I feel really stupid right now! I'm so used to using the LSCM Unwrap using a center I didnt even see the "smart unwrap" function... It all seems to be fine now ;)

I'll post a few screens as I work along,

So far,

Hmmm... Ok next problem, I've just exported my testmodel as an .md2-file.

However when imported to SB it seems to be missing faces! According to the tutorial, on the wiki, I should have done everything correct. It's converted to triangles, rotated 90° on the Z axis, the texture size is 256x256...

Here's a screnie:

any ideas?

Hoping for Help,

tab to edit mode, select all faces (a), ctrl-n to flip normals.

Unfortionately that didn't do all to much :(

If you'd like to see what I've done (and perhaps find a mistake?) you can dl it here:

I've ziped the blend & md2 file to look at... I seriously dont know what im doing wrong because no matter what I do, all my models look like that once imported 2 SB :(

Thanks for you guys help so far ;) I'd be really glad if I could get that to work ;)

try using the md3 exporter on the wiki and trying with that. I don't understand why you would use md2.

Downloaded it and tried. However I get a console error...

I opened "md3_export.py" in Blenders text editor and selected to execute the script.

Following Problem occurs:

Did I do something wrong or is there something wrong with the code?

(PS I'm using Blender V2.49a)

it's missing it's shared scripts, said script being qshared.py for this particular moment

Hmm... Could it be that I'm having my .py scripts in a wrong directory? (I've tried putting them in the Blender folder, as well as in the folder where my .blend project's localized)

The DL from the wiki gives me 4 files once unzipped:

- md3_export.py
- md3_import.py
- md3.py
- q_math.py
- q_shared.py

As of what goes with the error messages, I always get error messages that the console cannot find one of them.

I dont know if theres some special way to link them together :(

I'd be really glad for an example how you guys use those scripts ;)

Thanks again for your input!

lol nevermind, after about 40 minutes of intense googling I've figured that the scripts folder is hidden due to a "." in front of the blender folder ;) Thanks to mac that makes the folder hidden ;)

Giving it a testshot now and Ill check back qith you tomorrow ;)

The circles around the green parts are fighting with the straight parts at the corners.

But hey, keep modeling. Maybe you can try your hand at some new monsters. :D

Anyone else remember the Orb (Orbe?) mod for cube? Those packs could have *been* monster models. :)
