I've been playing around with the editor in this game and it's simply incredible. I can't help thinking that you could use those features in game to produce some spectacular terrain modification results. Like slowly blowing away a wall with a shotgun. Or digging a hole with a rocket launcher. It seems you'd just have to make the bullet particles do an angle deformation on the tiles it struck. Teeny increments for weak weapons and larger ones for bigger weapons. You\'d probably need to put in an area of affect for bullet particles so that you get a dent instead of a weird looking chip.
I think if someone did this, it could potentially put red faction to shame. There might be a little messing around with the physics or the way the game treats polygons that have become detached and are now floating in the air, but how hard is that?
Anyway, I think a mod like this would rock.

The main problem with deformable terrain is needing to either convert all lighting to dynamic lighting (resource intensive) or re-create the lightmaps every time a weapon was fired (more resource-intensive). Up against those barriers, it just doesn't jive with the rest of the engine.
