Getting rid of map-destroyers! (aka noobs)

by CHM on 06/14/2009 13:38, 13 messages, last message: 06/26/2009 05:18, 1774 views, last view: 04/11/2024 01:42, closed on 06/26/2009 06:01

Hi, I suggest a new gamemode, like coop edit, but the master decides if a player can edit or not, but if he doesn't edit, at least should be able to play, like FFA. Actually coop edit mode is only editor or spectator, and this expose maps to map destroyers. The new mode should accept editor/spectator/player.

just type /mastermode 2 and unspec people when you finnaly figure out how to. also making a new mode like that is EXACTLY coop edit, it has these thing, read the cube docs.

Problem with that is when you\'re spec\'d you can\'t run around on the map. I\'ve thought of this before and agree that it would be good, though maybe just a change to coop-edit as opposed to a new mode.

so then instead of making an entire new mode, just add the idea in. don't make it that hard to do, other wise it'll be like this: mode coop edit1 and mode coop edit2, just add the idea if you can, because it we have two of the same mode, it won't be as great, and then also in the next release there'll be more to download.

OMG, seriously, you need to stop speaking like you are any authority on the engine. You obviously have no idea and it's getting annoying; especially when you mislead other people.

i never said i have authoridy, i am merly suggesting, i am also pointing out that we already have a coop edit, and his idea is the have a second coop edit mode, with the one execption that you can run around but if you try to get into edit mode you can't. i am mearly pointing that coop edit its self would be fine if someone made that, but i think its entirly rediculis to download the infomation for coop edit twice execpt in one that has a bit more code, i am perfectly justified, you just decided to take everything i say the wrong way, now if you want to aruge with me, go ahead, i can hold my temper and i don't give a rats ass what people think of me as long as they see what i am seeing. you may censor me, i don't care, just as long as you read this. and yes, i may not know much about the engine its self, but at least i try to help those who have no clue without insulting them, also if i ever had a problem with you, normaly i would just use some sort of private way to talk to you without other people being able to read what i said, next time you have a problem, look for a way to contact me.

Whilst your desire to help people is admirable, your inability to spell or use capitalisation makes your posts mostly unreadable...

I must agree with Quin and baby~rabbit...
I admire your will to help people that don't know what they are doing, and without insult, which many "older" users have not learnt.

But please break your writing down into paragraphs at least, since no-one can be bothered to read through this much text.

I learned it pretty quickly to search first and then ask for help, and only help in cases where I believe I know the most correct answer. Since this is one of the few places that one can find answers to questions about the engine, we really need all information here to be as accurate as possible.

All the above is not meant to offend you or anyone else, it is simply my take on how this forum works, or more how it should work. Please consider this as a constructive criticism :)

For fear of hijacking this thread (and this is the last I'll say anything on the subject), I need to highlight the fact that you have been asked several times by many other people to do two things:

1) Break down your posts so they are actually readable.
2) Not answer questions when you are unsure of, or don't know, the answer.

To highlight my point, a second coop mode would not make the download any/much bigger than extending the current one. Code is very small compared to the overall size of the package. This is not to mention that if this kind of thing was intended, it would already be done.

If you don't start listening to the people who coexist with you on these forums, I think it would be fair to say that you'll start finding your posts getting censored alot.

The solution to CHM problem lies within observation. If you play coop enough, and see who is actually good at making maps, who just sucks, and who wreck them. Notable map makers are always good to unspectate.

If they dont deserve to help make the map, chances are, they dont deserve to run around on it either, defeating the perpus of a /runaroundbutdontedit.

Wow, I had just finished commenting on another thread where censorship was alleged (although I didn't see any evidence of such) and now this.

If the moderators of this forum want to foster discussions amongst experienced or semi-experienced programmers, then this forum should be renamed and moved from the main Sauerbraten site. It's worth considering that the sarcasm and put-downs that greet many new or younger participants might be one of the key factors in preventing greater participation in the development of Sauerbraten. If there are those who want to assert their mastery of the English language, C++, or Cubescript on a public forum dedicated to an open source game, then to those people I would say, "Get a life." I would say the same thing, in more harsh tones, to the dictators the world over who feel they can silence what they view as inconvenient or dangerous speech.

That last sentence is hyperbole, but seriously, tentus, I've counted more than a fair number of grammar missteps or unclear verbiage in your own postings. Are we all required to adhere to the OED now?

If you don't want to read a given post because it causes "irony spasms" (as opposed to the correct wording, "spasms of irony) then don't read it.
