New TC - Assault

by SnipamastaK on 05/22/2003 18:26, 85 messages, last message: 06/09/2003 16:37, 15411 views, last view: 05/05/2024 03:34

Hey,
Im hopefully starting a new mod called assault (which will most likely be changed to a less lame name), which is made to be sorta like the tactical assault games out (CS,TO e.g).
Im gonna start working on some weapon replacements soon, so if anyone wants to join the team, you're welcome :)

no
it makes it a game everyone on the team likes.
if i like it a certian way, it might be a very unpopular way and no-one would like it. whats the point in that?
and its not a mod :)

The problem is, everyone on the team has his own vision of how the end result should look like. This might differ in concept, or in small details, but it always exists. And, unless some _dictator_ is there to decide HOW it will actually look at the end, the entire team will be disappointed at the end.

It's like this: one wanted a different knife and didn't get it (but added a slower player movement), another wanted more advanced ballistics and didn't get it (but got the slower player movement which he didn't want) etc.

Just read a few interviews with game/mod developers, about how their product was made. It's all there.

"And, unless some _dictator_ is there to decide HOW it will actually look at the end, the entire team will be disappointed at the end."
Not really. We mix every idea and it makes a concept everyone likes

Also, i dont listen to crap from other devlopers.I have already done that. I got the absics. I want to do it the way everyoen on the project prefers.

Well, good luck. You don't have much chances for success, but you do have some - there are always exceptions from the rules. It depends on whether you are fortunate enough to fall into that 0.01% exceptional category... time will tell.

#76: Stereo 3D? Wow! =)

by Thalion on 05/26/2003 22:53

Ehm... something I've just seen on your site:

"The features that are in it will make it seem like you're really there, including hopeful support for Stereo 3d"

Excuse me, but since when stereo sound has become a feature that "makes it seem like you're really there"? I think the effect is at least as old as Doom... =)

lol.. i was talking to frank. In that chatlog Snipa posted, Frank kept commanding him to do this and that even though he thought it looked good. Having someone make decicions is good, but you gotta leave some room for everyone to just do their thing without telling them how to do their job. It's seriously annoying to get something back fifteen times after you're done with it.

That's what design documents are for.

Snipa... I don't mind you having your own opinion, but could you please be somewhat less rude? Just in case you didn't notice, I did not call you an "idiot", regardless of my feelings about you, and expect the same from you. If you really want to state your opinion about me that clearly, you can always send it by email or ICQ to me personally.

#82: cooperative work for similar projects.

by D.plomat on 06/08/2003 16:05

Looks like Assault and FlameShot are somewhat similar (at least for the realistic part, that would be let say 80% of the work to do on the base of cube code). So Frank_i and SnipamastaK should work together. either by merging the projects together and differentiating by some games mode selectable by menu, like cube does for DM/efficiency/instagib etc..., or sharing a large code base and branching at the end. Needless to say the first option would be way more efficient.
As those projects are still very short on human resources, as many of free software -which give them much merit for providing high quality software-, if they share a common base, it will greatly improve development speed and ease of "recruitment".
Already worked a little on thoughts for FlameShot, by beginning a detailled list of what's to be done, qualifying amount of work/feasability/skills required, and evaluation of what i should do by myself. don't have the file here as i'm not at home, but will post it on FlameShot thread later.

Dude , im soory , but that is a bad idea . If you dont know , i hate snipa and he hates me (i guess) so theres no way that we can work in the same project this way . Also we have a different way of working so.... also , he stop his assault mod , so now you know , it cant happen

ok, so i'll continue on the FlameShot thread.
As your project was the first started, i'll work on it.
but, as it's an open-source project, he'll be able to use some of my work to his project, but he'll only get code or content as-is, and the community is more focused on your.
Also, it would be cool if you opened a thread FlameShot-devel for only development.
