I don't think they use Visual C++
I think they use codeblocks http://www.codeblocks.org/

You might want to give us some more information besides it didn't work because I'm pretty sure codeblocks does work, you probably did something wrong.

I can't help you too much because I don't know much about compiling, I just use the Makefile they set up.

Also I wouldn't make multiple threads, you're not going to get a response faster that way...

The GCC version that comes with codeblocks is different from the one we use - get a more recent version of GCC to go with it.

BTW: The binaries are always compiled in the SVN, so unless you're on Mac...

Don't have an MSN thingy, but I'm almost always on IRC.

There are usually more qualified people around to ask coding questions too. Just make sure that you read all the sauer docs first - 98% of them are still applicable :)

Please note that I am not going to teach you how to use a compiler though, as it has nothing to do with Blood Frontier directly; I don't have the time/patience to teach everyone how to do it, this is something you learn for yourself.

I provide up-to-date win32 binaries in the SVN repository for this reason, you do not need to compile this yourself unless you're planning on doing something with the source that modifies the game; again this is outside the scope of what I can help you with - use the binaries I have provided, that is what they are there for.

Also an addendum; we use SDL_image and libpng in a way that renders the precompiled vcpp libraries incompatible with each other (as the ones available are different versions). I do not - and will not - use a proprietary product to build an open source game, you are on your own if you use MSVC or another commercial product.

I recommend Code::Blocks, then installing the TDM-MingW package over it to upgrade the GCC provided.

http://www.tdragon.net/recentgcc/

Again, this is the scope of what I can help you with - it works for me which is all I can really afford to account for - your experience may be different.

For future reference, Blood Frontier is no longer piggybacking on the Cube Forums - I realise that our domain has been somewhat unstable the last week or two though. The appropriate place for Blood Frontier discussion is on IRC (preferably) or on our Community Forum.

http://bloodfrontier.com/Community

IRC (or the Forum) is the only way you will get me (and some other) developers to talk to you, as it is a public environment.

Lastly, don't go harassing people via email and social networking sites (facebook/myspace/etv) to get them to add your MSN, I personally found it quite annoying to wake up to half a dozen requests from you over four different sites.
