Hello all... this thread is for discussing features you would like to see in cube, and in particular those that you find most urgent. If lots of people have the same urgent requests, I may give it priority to be implemented.

#81: just a couple of tweaks.. |

heres a few ideas..
1. make a next weapon and a previous weapon command. currently i just use a bunch of exec .cfg commands like aliases to do this but it doesnt skip weapons that you dont have etc.
2. bring in the alias command :) using exec *.cfg does allow us to do the same sort of things but its a little annoying to use.
3. make the rifle pierce enemys so that it can damage/kill multiple enemys lined up. Doing this is essentially making it a railgun but it would make it a more useful weapon :)

just thought of a couple more things but the engine is a bit to simple to be able to incorporate them just yet and ur prolly gunna put them in eventually anyway.. i dunno tho so here they r :)
1) environment damage- things like traps, fall damage, and the ever infamouse lava (AHAHA ITS NOT A JACUZI YA FUCKING MORON! [tm i cant remember who]). qw ownz j00.
2) inertia- being able to change direction in mid air is pretty cool and all, but the way its fixed atm doesnt allow for much in the way of trick jumping :/

well, yesterday i talked to goetz (damn i didn\'t do this for a long time :) and he told me about cube. well i visit the page, leeched the game and thought \"5mb\'s ... that must be a selfrunning demo or something\"
but well... great job! i think i love this game ;> - but now to my \'requests\'.
- to be able to bind the mousewheel. ;)
- bigger & higher levels (this game is faster than qw and so you\'ll need bigger maps/ higher maps would be needed cause of rocketjumping ;>
- is strafejumping implemented? :)
well and the old room\'s problem (one room above another) should be solved (i know, aarp is a doom fan... goetz told me ;)

In addition to more textures and the ability to add textures, it would be nice if there were more background (the landscape) images to chose from. Especially a nighttime sky.

dont have all those shitty looking, shitty sounding, shitty working guns, like the ones from quake, be inventive, no nail guns, railguns, etc
in other words, dont fall into their pit.
does anyone play cs, well thats what im talking about.
is there a model maker about for this, or a sprite maker???

I agree. The world has enough DOOM and Quake clones already. Coming up with some inventive or original weapons would be a breath of fresh air.
I know this is Aard's baby and all, but to be honest with you, I think the world would benefit more from a game creation engine rather than just another FPS game.
To expand on that statement, instead of just making CUBE another game that people can download and play, why not make it more of a game creation tool. Make it so it's easily modified where people can come up with their own games using the CUBE engine. I'm not saying release the source code or let people modify the actual code, but implement features that allow people to use the engine to create their own games using their ideas and creativity. There are currently a couple of 3D game creation tools out there right now, such as Dark Basic, but unless you know how to program in basic, it's kind of useless.
CUBE is already easily modified, I'm already using the engine to create a game with a totally different look and feel than the original CUBE and I'm not even a programmer. I'm a network engineer at a St. Louis area Health Care organizaion. I didn't modify one bit of the actual CUBE engine other than the config files. I couldn't if I wanted to considering the source code hasn't been released.
I'll show you what I've done with it in the next day or two when I make a website available to promote the project.
Aardappel, I'd like to get your opinon on other people using your engine like this. Not modifying the actual code, just being able to make their own games with your engine. You really wouldn't have to deal with people trying to collaborate with you on the actual source code of the engine, you'd be under full control of that, but it would allow people to use their creativity to create their own games without having to know how to program.

I will try and make it as modifyable as possible, but it isn't my aim to make a game devkit. Once I release the source people will be able to do more with it, in your case that means finding a programmer :)

i think that this would go well having the map editor as a sepparate installed thing, or justa separate program, cos it gets a little annoying when i bump the E key, and OMG, whatta you no, how bout i customise this map when i want to play it.
ah yes, also, i think make the engine a lil less quakeish, perhaps your own type of model file, and make not use the quake icons either.
also i would like to see umm, what was it again?? ummm, oh yes, err, YES a menu which the game loads to, with an option to go strait to editing mode, and to goto a map, multiplayer, or single player, etc, not in game, and also be able to use my nice lil mouse on the menu, it gets jelous of the keyboard doing its job.
as you can see im realy quite bored.
ambe i sould go work on my site

lol, replying to my own msg, but i just thought of sumthing, instead of ANOTHER poor rocket launcher, could we have a over-the-shoulder-RPG (rocket propelled grenade)
and the rifle, hmmm no rife ive used (and ive used alllllllot) has ever made a trail behind it like that, cos that looks nasty, and perhaps if its gonna be so damn slow it could be bolt action?

I just thourt of another cool thing, you could do physical damage to walls! like you shoot it, and wham, a chunk of it is well gone, and with the rpg, make it be able to blow the shit throught a thin wall, and make me a nice new passage way, or camin spot!
ah well, prolly not the sort of things that games these day can have

No, having the editor in the same program is absolutely brilliant. I love knowing exactly what my map looks like. If you're bumping the e key, then rebind it. And if you have a beef with the menu, change that too. It's extremely easy, there's no excuse.

Shockie, get with editing the menus, it's sooooo easy.
The whole point of this little engine is that everything is built-in - it's brilliant!
Oh - and they're not the Quake icons, as everything is available for free use or brand new in this game - they just look similar :P

how bout a menu i can use my mousey on??
and perhaps maybe a lil less quake like
i was reading the stuff on making menus, and it is quite easy, i didnt look, sorrrrrrrrrrrry!
how do we make our models we made work in the game, say for the rocket launcher i made a RPG, how do i get it to show, can we get this implimented, even if you only set the models to 1x1 pixels so we can add our own, i still have to work this out, tell me if i missed something in the tutorials, i dont mike feeling like an idiot (like much of an idiot realy)
