Hello all... this thread is for discussing features you would like to see in cube, and in particular those that you find most urgent. If lots of people have the same urgent requests, I may give it priority to be implemented.

perhaps it would be in order to have a large number of flexible "rules" that a noncoder like me can understand and play with... remember how the flag in quad had to be the same entity number as the jumppad? we need a mode with numbers in which the level maker can use, without going way off into semi-MOD state... make it so that we can specify a number of rules, some of which could be bent to allow for CTF, bombing run (UT), and mine laying.

Actually, this wouldn't need to be a feature so much as a project more knowledgable people could donate to. Like the config tips thread, but more so. Or like the level "Camera". but lots more so. I just don't know enough code to go anywhere with this kind of idea.

#1604: New Game Wizard

by expert01 on 02/08/2005 01:11

A new game wizard would be nice... imagine, you've downloaded and installed cube. You go download extension modules for it (such as server browsers, bots, characters, gui's, etc). You run the wizard, it asks you for your game name, logo, startup movie, icons, and modules, and your company/personal information. You finish the wizard and you are able to start designing with a customised game.

G`Day all luv the game! I would like to see captions above players when they are chatting (like quake & doom) so I don`t frag`em while players are chatting. thx

you mean a speech bubble or an icon, like the little (.) found in UT? i could see that being useful, but i doubt many people would notice that before they pulled the trigger. if anything it'd make the person a more visible target.

well.. serious players will notice and refrain from pulling the trigger...
I´d like to see that too, though on the other hand... chat when you´re dead anyways would solve the prob too.

Probably as long as ppl will install in protected places to chat... otherwise the adrenaline is so high i doubt i'd notice unless the sign being very visible, like a different color used the same way as blue for teammates.

OTOH, as long as you can respawn at will (except arena modes), the only disadvantage in being killed in Cube is that you give one frag to another player... Considering the number of frags in a Cube round i don't know if this matters a lot.

I find that the only annoyance is in Tactics, when you want to type some comments between rounds - Tactics-type games force respawn (as they should).

Note on tactics: chasecam or freecam (like the editor cam or something) is really, really missing. Also, forcing new players to wait for the next round to start rather than joining the existing round already in progress would be much more fair.

#1612: a few suggestions

by yanqui on 02/17/2005 21:57

If you guys could integrate the <a href=http://idea.hosting.lv/a/gfx/>fisheye mod</a> into the source code it would make the engine more dynamic. Since the fisheye can be turned on and off it won\'t hurt the engine but it would add some nice new features.
Best of all integration requires almost no coding since the code is already written for the patch.

A few modifications to the map editing section could make cube quite a bit more interesting...
An ability to dynamically arch (using the mouse wheel+shift for example) would be great. It would be even better if the dynamic arch feature could be used on eithor ceiling or ground.
Also, a dome feature would make things MUCH more interesting.

changeable character skins and weapons would be nice, but that seems like it may be a long term goal.

There are a couple of ideas....

Oh yes, and the ability to rotate arches and maybe other tiles (north/south to east/west) would make map editing a whole lot easier.

#1614: Command

by Ds2kX on 02/17/2005 22:59

It is possible to have a complete descrpition command which exists for the Cube Engine (musicvol example, saycommand, getmap, etc)this command for console and CFG file.Tkz

another thing.... an organized directory structure would make thigns a lot eaiser. When more people start making things for cube the directory structure will get really cluttered and hard to deal with. If the directories were organized things would much eaiser.

yangui: just use what cube has to offer, I know it could be better, but it works just fine this way..you´ll get used to this.. if you really need to rotate/mirror things, you might try using the mod quad to do this.
yes, directory structure is somewhat confusing, but it works fine..

ds2kx: I am not really sure what you mean?

#1617: Re: organization

by tentus on 02/18/2005 06:09, refers to #1615

that's part of the appeal of making a mod. the day aard released cube he seriously constrained himself, b/c at that point lots of things like organization became static. even a small change would be disasterous to all the content other people have made.

i recently comepletely changed the way my models are organized in my mod, and despite the fact i have only a dozen maps, it's taken me hours and hours to get things straightened out.

really i think the packages/data/bin organization makes perfect sense, with some minor tweaks in the subfolders. seriously work with cube for two weeks and it'll be second nature.

#1618: Skelanim avatars

by XhyldazhK on 02/18/2005 08:00

A good idea: each player could have her/his own avatar, in a skeletal animation format in order to be quick to download (MD2 models are keyframe based and thus are huge in size).

it would be nice if objects in maps could be uploaded/downloaded with the getmap feature...

md2 is huge? what programs are you basing this off of? it's hard to find an open source skeletal-based model format with seperate skins- of the few i have encountered md2 struck me as being far superior. don't answer with something like .3ds format, it's not open source.

also, where would an avatar be shown? the menus aren't exactly image based...
