Hello all... this thread is for discussing features you would like to see in cube, and in particular those that you find most urgent. If lots of people have the same urgent requests, I may give it priority to be implemented.

bad idea. part of "the cube way" is to be very accessible to everyone.

I thought the Cube way was to do whatever made you happy and if it's accessible well that's just good luck.

#1263: Refresh Rate

by Yago McFiend on 06/01/2004 11:58

I'd like to see a command line option for setting the refresh rate.
I have a problem with my G-Force 3 (and updated drivers, so, for some reason, I can't override that eye-melting 60Hz, even if I set it to override.

Help me save what's left of my poor eyes... :-)

Don't forget to override it for OpenGL, not Direct3D. Cube uses OpenGL!

Hmm. 60Hz? Eye melting? I have a 60Hz fixed frequency monitor that can't do textmode ... Maybe i just got used to those 60Hz ;)

#1270: Deathmatch Edit mode

by milkoGR on 06/01/2004 23:38

I would like to see a mode similar to coopedit, but the players cannot fly when on edit mode and are not invulnarable. It will be great fun avoiding missiles by building walls!

I have a few comments on Cube.

First off, I LOVE your game. But I have some comments on it.

1) The shotgun you start out with in FFA is WAY underpowered.

2) when in coopedit mode, when editing, you should NOT be invincible while
editing. All the servers I've played online, people have used the edit as a
sort of cheat to catch opponents off guard, but they're TOTALLY invincible
while doing so, which means you can just hit 'e' and dodge a rocket, etc.

3) I think another possible game mode would be excessive. I've seen this done
for other games. It makes everything rapid fire, basically, with replenishing
health and ammo.

4) It'd be great if you combined the CTF mod, or made your own CTF mode, into
cube.

Thanks, I'm open to replies

It's simply the best short-range weapon in the game. And you START with it! What else would you want?

Servers shouldn't be in coopedit mode in the first place. Just ignore those that are. Coopedit is NOT for deathmatch anyway...

Personally, I'm not a big fan of those mods myself. But, well, the source code is open, so whoever wishes to do such a mode is always welcome.

Just wait a bit. It's in the process of being revived, actually =)

1)
Like spentron and Thalion said, it's *very* powerful when correctly used.
It's my favourite weapon, at first it's a bit tricky to make a well-placed shot, but when you're used to it, if you can manage to be close enough to have 100% of the blast on your enemy, in DM you're nearly assured to take down any opponent(unless he have 100 health and the big armour), and in SP it's the only weapon to kill a slith in 1 shot and a bauul in (2/3?) shots.

2)
Same thing. avoid coopedit servers, they're here for creating maps, not playing. if in the game someone votes for coopedit do NOT vote for this, and vote for another mode (unless you really want to edit maps, which is fun too)

3)
The closest thing is efficiency mode... health and ammo aren't replenishing, but you have a good amount of each

You probably have the same problem that I have with my ATI Radeon 9000, right? you get lines on the screen and alot of flicker? Try these things:

1. Degauss your monitor
2. Update your drivers
3. Change the cube resolution to your desktop resolution
4. Change the desktop resolution to the Cube resolution, change the refresh rate, then change the res. back to your own normal one.

Yeah, I h8 60 Hz too, but I just live with it... I get some nasty dark/light bands on my desktop unless i'm at 75Hz, but I don't notice it that much in cube.

I can only ask for it again:

maxclients, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Because:

there are about 20 servers on my list.
but all people play on only one server, often like 10 or more.
This is too much people imho for cube, and me and my modem are only getting lag.
If there was a maxclient option, server admins could cap the player number to something REASONABLE like 2,4,6,or 8
players.(in addition to a mapcycle, maybe?) This would result in more servers being used with more nice games going on.
Often I just go on an empty server and wait for someone to join, but far too often, all the people from the "other" server join there almost at once... that really annoys me...

:(

well, i was once on a 20ppl game, even with a DSL that wasn't ok, but probably with so many ppl it's th *server* bandwidth thats get saturated... eventually there should be an auto-setting to have the max ppl determined by available server bandwidth?

As there is no score, just pure fun killing, i don't see how we could make a high score, if you're speaking about SP (or maybe time to finish a map+remaining health etc?)

The ESL league is somewhat a high-score table for DM

demos: they already exist for DM games. unfortunately the elite cubers playing at the ESL doesn't provide their games recording to the public :(
