Quadropolis: Seeking Web Developer

by nieb on 01/09/2009 21:37, 9 messages, last message: 01/19/2009 04:45, 1797 views, last view: 05/05/2024 13:47

We are currently running the original version of Quadropolis on the old server. Transferring the site proved to be troublesome and was unsuccessful.
As of June this year my service on the old server will be up and the old site will cease to exist.

I've decided to just start the site a new with a fresh install of Drupal on the new server.

The bulk of the work is using the CCK module to create custom content types.

If you're interested or would like more details reply here or get a hold of me on IRC…

The things this article talks about pretty much sums up the problems I encountered whilst trying to maintain the current Drupal install. So perhaps the book being mentioned will be useful to whomever takes on the task.

#2: Back up suggestion

I have used the website to hire out some web programming, I found this great site called: http://www.getacoder.com to find what I needed.

Getacoder.com is a great site. You post your project and what needs done, then the users start submitting bids for your work. You select best user suited for the job...

Good luck to you! I love Quadropolis!

I would be interested in talking to you about helping with your site upgrade. I am pretty familiar with Drupal. Email me if you would like to talk further...

#5: I'm interested

I'd be interested in helping out, although I do admit I don't have any experience with drupal.
I was hoping I could get a "map upload checker" integrated into quadropolis.

http://sauerbraten.homeip.net/sauerbraten/upload/

That is what I currently have working so far. Just take a zipped up map from quadropolis to test it out.
It checks file structure and fixes common mistakes. It also reads the map file to look for other errors like teleports without a matching teledest.

So I think a script like that would be helpful on quad. If not, I'd still like to help out.

#6: Amazing! o_O

Firstly, let me apologize for the intrusion (I'm not applying for the job) but I couldn't restrain myself giving compliments to c0rdawg.

I've used to code some (very basic) upload forms some years ago, when I was working as a webdesigner (file size/mime-type/file-ext checks) but I've _never_ seen something like this. Man, you are a monster... seriously!! (please, listen to this, while reading: http://tinyurl.com/a3kyqc :D)

I've done two attempts: one with a test file where everything was purposely wrong (names, locations, missing teledests, no lights, etc..) and another one with my map fc4... well, I'm still amazed by the potential of your script. I hope that it will be implemented... oh, better I clearly state that I've received no money by c0rdawg, and that I have no legal connection with him. :P

I have tested your "map upload checker" in two ways, with a real map and with a "false" one..... and I have two things to say:
First:
- Man this is fucking great!!!
Second:
-Are you out of your mind?!!!

Excellent work c0rdawg

#8: Thanks

by c0rdawg on 01/12/2009 23:06

Thank you two, I hope you're not just saying that because I thought fc4 was amazing :p

But yeah, this script is still beta and I have some bugs to iron out and a few more features to add, but I was hoping it would at least show its potential.

Oh and sorry to go off topic Nieb, if anyone has any more questions about my script I suppose we should make a new topic for it and leave this one.

Why you simply not transfer ALL the files, ALL the databased and...

you should have to edit some config files?
