Cube & Cube 2 FORUM

Cube Chatter Nabble Forum

I'm looking for feedback on the structure of an alternative forum.

http://n2.nabble.com/Cube-Chatter-f2128675.html

Nabble is an amazing free forum service. It's fast, no ads, clean, customizable appearance, embeddable in websites, has different layout features, post-by-email, and more - it is just awesome. (Really, you can't help but be impressed. None of this free phpbb host crap, this is the next gen forum-as-a-service.)

I know, I know, this is not the 1st "new forum" thread. However, the potential to embed individual forums on websites ( e.g. http://data.intensityengine.com/forums.htm is Nabble ) ((you can merge Nabble forums really easily so if this were a go, the IE author could reassign his threads/subforums/categories, or even the whole forum to the cube chatter forum, his forum would still operate the same and be embedded like it is now, but just appear in the cube chatter forums and have a cube chatter breadcrumb)) makes this much more attractive than the usual phpbb ad-driven drivel.

Why another forum? This one is naff, it simply lacks the features and organization that are conducive to collaboration. Stuff gets buried, quickly. No attachments. No email notification. Not much can be done, but if Cube-spawned projects and active developers push an alternative, then it can gain traction.

I only think this can work because Nabble is nice enough that it would encourage _developers_ to use it. The previous "ZOMG use our cube forum" links were frankly not well thought out and not particularly nice.

I'll try and respond constructively to the inevitable flames, but I am really after feedback on how it should be organized more than anything else.

Just 2 cents here...

There´s a topic discussing other boards or forum solutions or communities. I dont want to sound harsh but this new thread seems a little useless. I just see another topic praising NABBLE. This board is SLIM has all the features we need to chit chat.

THIS IS NOT A FLAME. I know my farts smell like Oblivion but I´m also NOT a troll...

#2: Nabble is Good

My 2c:

Nabble is good, I already use it for the Intensity Engine. It has great features (including email notifications on responses, that feature was a must-have for me) and is free.

Random example of Nabble use: On the Mono website, http://www.go-mono.com/forums/ Shows how embedding can achieve a (fairly) natural look.

So count me in favor.

Soulsilver: The reason I had to start a new thread is because this stuff gets buried. The initial thread post (which is always shown) references the takeforum attempt. People will read and visit that first and make assumptions from there.

Kripken has rightly pointed out that IE is somewhat different to Cube2, so I was thinking:

Cube Engine
- Cube
- AssaultCube

Cube2 Engine
- Sauerbraten
- Blood Frontier
- Eisenstern
- Platinum Arts Sandbox

Intensity Engine
- Intensity Engine
- Tide Turner

Am I missing out any Cube projects?

Oh, none taken, I wouldn't consider what you said to be a flame. You were making a valid point, and politely so.
