I think that implementing a physics engine into Sauerbraten would attract a lot of people to the game. Is anyone planning to do this? Could it be done as a mod via scripting, or would someone have to rip into the guts of the engine and release it as a different game? Might Cube 3 have rigid body physics?

You would have to modify the source code, at this time scripting such complex features as new physics engines is not supported. I do not know when Cube 3 will come out, so I cannot tell whether it will have rigid body physics or not. However, I doubt it will.

I thing Cube 3 will never be released. Only new improved editions of Cube 2: Sauerbraten and Cube 2: Eisenstern

Using Bullet physics was discussed on IRC recently - I think reddawn said he did it successfully. I'm not sure it will end up in Sauerbraten itself though, as eihrul generally seems opposed to adding dependencies. But it would certainly be interesting if it did.
