Quin Needs Your Help - Campaign for Medical Treatment

by Quin on 11/03/2008 14:46, 16 messages, last message: 12/27/2008 15:20, 2375 views, last view: 04/28/2024 01:36, closed on 09/25/2011 17:36

Last month, I sent an open letter to the government (http://qreeves.blogspot.com/2008/10/plea-for-help-open-letter.html) asking for help with an ongoing illness that I have suffered for over ten years, over which time it has still remained undiagnosed and untreated despite immense pain in my daily life. This is due to the poor administration of public health systems here in my state of Queensland in Australia. The responses I got, #1 (http://qreeves.blogspot.com/2008/10/plea-for-help-round-one.html), #2 (http://qreeves.blogspot.com/2008/10/plea-for-help-first-contact.html), were less than optimistic for me.

This is not a totally sad story though, as my illness is the very thing that gives me the time to dedicate to the community, and I have been serving you all fairly adequately (if only in my opinion) for several years now, both in my roles as manager for Quadropolis, and my continuing work on Cube 2 with Blood Frontier. Now I ask for you to participate in a campaign (http://qreeves.blogspot.com/2008/11/plea-for-help-outcry-campaign.html) to the Queensland Minister for Health, whereby I hope to get the recognition I deserve through persistence and power in numbers. All I need from you is five minutes of your time to visit my blog, where I have also been keeping a running history of my experience so far.

I apologise for the offtopic nature of my post, but please, visit the entry for my campaign, send a quick little email with the standard form I provided, and you will have done more than enough to help me. Hopefully with proper diagnosis, treatment, and pain management, I can continue to do what I do best around here for a long time to come.

I also sent them an e-mail. Hope they\'ll help you.

By the way, what should we put in the subject? I wrote \"Quin Greeves outcry for help\".

I once heard that if one hand-writes a letter to my local congressman, it goes straight to their desk, as opposed to an email, which would go through "the channels" (and might eventually be ignored). You might do the same.

Just some food for thought.

Yep, snail mail is much more effective, but for the purposes of global stuff it can have a decent enough effect via email too in enough volume. The subject doesn't really matter, the more random it is the harder it is for them to ignore it ;)

Thanks to everyone who has supported me in this too. It's been very touching to see the response I've gotten from this community. I love ya's and you're all showing me why, there have been some *very* generous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

1/2g weed + 1l hot water + vacuum flask + 3 hours + chocolate = kick ass

A set of pills is poor but it is the only way that helps. There is sort of cure besides beta-blocker in development as far as I can see on wikipedia. Did you contact marfan-help ? (www.marfan.com / marfan.net.au / marfan.de in germany)

Hope you get well.

Just got a lovely christmas present from the Health Minister, the official blow off. Thought I'd share the response one kind supporter got and decided to share:

Perhaps you might get better mileage if you don't come across as being racist.

You should probably be more informed before suggesting I am racist, because that is far from the truth.

The problem is the Qld health system is so corrupted and underfunded that the entire industry is dominated by immigrants - Australian doctors go elsewhere for better pay and working conditions, be it interstate or overseas. The communication issue with the remaining doctors is one of the many problems plaguing the process of getting treatment.

They are well aware of this issue, as is the media. I have contacted several news stations and the response is always the same; complete silence or an apology saying they don't need "yet another story about the failings of Queensland Health" - they just get too many of these already.

I'd like to remind everyone that the original post is outdated and that the campaign is no longer running nor useful. The thread was bumped only to give everyone an update on how it turned out.

I'll be staging a protest at the Health Department's main office in Brisbane soon, once I figure out how exactly I am going to approach things from here. There's nothing worse than an outright lie from a government official in writing, they've just made this a personal vendetta for me now.

My suggestion::

Go search somewhere else for better health care.

Join some Yahoo! groups, since that's where my family have been able to get almost every real answer they've needed. Present some of these ideas to the "Doctors" and you might be able to get somewhere.
