Cube & Cube 2 FORUM

Cube demolisioning psyics Tpoic 2

by frostyraver on 10/06/2008 06:21, 16 messages, last message: 10/10/2008 03:36, 1558 views, last view: 04/19/2024 11:06, closed on 10/10/2008 11:44

Why was the other topic locked?

Anyhow, What dynamic lights can cube 2 do?

Also it wasn't me that mentioned cutscenes.

Forum says to search before opening topics, and this has been discussed too many times to be of any use now. All you accomplish is annoying those of us who have read this question the first million times.

Dynamic lights in Cube 2 are shader specific, and not for general use as a lighting method. Again, also discussed before on this forum.

The general cube demolition question has been asked many many times before - so search the forum!

The dynamic lights in cube 2 are of limited use- only really good for the odd localised flash or two from an explosion or rocket trail. They also only show if your card supports shaders.

Well I had no idea it didn't support that type of lighting or what goes into doing this type of stuff, so it would be possible if you had a map that was out doors or no lighting to blow away little cubeits?

Yes, but realise geometry would become highly unoptimised and start slowing down your computer. Build an entire map out of size 1 cubes without doing a recalc and you'll see.

Well how about handling the psychics with a physicX plugin?

One thing you could try is to make a wall of small brick-sized "box" entities. Make it 2 bricks thick. That way when a rocket hits them that part of the wall will be blown partially away.

What are you plugging into what?

Programming != Legos.

yes it does! ... its just that the bricks are _very_ awkward shapes.

frostyraver - with effort many things are possible, though to get it done you'll most likely have to do the coding yourself.

Okay, but that would mean that we are using Legos that have been individually hand-carved and have to be convinced to fit together more carefully than a blacksmith's puzzle. So the Legos analogy doesn't really fit, does it?

Well, considering you just made the analogy accurate...

"Programming is just like building with Legos. Granted, they're individually hand-carved and fit together more carefully than a blacksmith's puzzle, but it's still like building with Legos."

Well, then again...

Maybe we should quit discussing whether an analogy is accurate or not and only post if we have something relevant to the thread.

There is nothing relevant about this thread, it was closed once and should be closed again for duplication. I didn't bother because the O.P. would have just posted again, and again, and again.

It's a discussion board, Is that what these forums are for?, I really don't think it matters if I wish to discuss things that have already been said, I had no idea that someone ELSE wanted to make little block explosions also.

The rate that these forums move, I don't think it matters a great deal, unless it becomes a problem.

"I had no idea that someone ELSE wanted..."

We live in the days of google - doesn't everyone SEARCH first?

We're just sick of hearing about it, everyone wants destructible geometry, but the THIS particular technology is not designed for it.

This is why before you can even post a topic the forums scream bloody murder at you to search first, but who reads disclaimers? 1% of the internet it seems :o)
