Try EnvyNG for an easy way to install drivers which should work (the ATI ones seem to work fine with Sauer, I can't vouch for the quality of the NVidia ones...)

http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html

or, more simply, open Konsole, and type:

sudo apt-get install envyng-qt

and after that, go to your 'Appliactions > System Tools' Menu and Launch EnvyNG from there. It should be relatively easy from there.

There is an entry for the 9550 series, but not for the X1050...
Try the driver anyway.

It'd be kind of difficult to install on a PC without an Internet connection... If you can borrow a friend's internet or something, that'd be best...

Else, download the driver and, from http://packages.ubuntu.org/ , these packages: build-essential, debconf, debhelper, dh-make, dkms, fakeroot, libstdc++5, and the headers for your kernel (do "echo linux-headers-$(uname -r)" in a terminal to see the name of the package.)
Note that these packages may depend on other packages, so you'll have to get those too.

I've modified my installer script so that it'll work with this situation... It expects the driver installer to be in /var/tmp, but you can change this in line 38.

I have a 9550, it reports as "ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 Series" so I assume they're basically the same thing with minor on-board or overclocking differences. I know I can overclock the 9550 to run as fast as an X1050, but things get a bit dicey.

I have this problem sometimes when I join a server or on certain maps maybe, my framerate drops to almost nothing and it's a chore just to quit the game.

As said in another thread, you need the binary driver, not the open source one.
