Hello all, sorry for reiterating my question, but i think it might make a better topic for discussion than a once off query.
In short, is there any method of importing, or editing, the .ogz files, other than the in-game editor?
I ask this because Sauerbrauten's cube subdivision maps (could) make it ideal for representing ascii games in 3d, as instead of having to calculate and render thousands of individual cube-tiles, the engine combines them, which would be difficult to do with any other engine.
If we could get Sauerbrauten to interpret and import ascii maps from games such as Dwarf Fortress (google it if you don't know of it, easily one of the best games around today) or NetHack, their map generation techniques could save rpg designers a lot of work (even more if we could get the game to spawn entities based on the ascii mapfiles)
What do you guys think?

We do exactly what you're asking for in the Plexus project.
As a proof of concept, I wrote a maze generation script that makes ascii maps, then another script that takes the ascii map and builds the Sauer map, dropping mapmodels throughout, etc.
It just does the bare minimum to show that yes it can be done, but as I get more time later I'll flesh it out to make it generate playable dungeons.

Exactly what I was talking about.. Pity I couldn't find it before. Have you guys contacted ascii game communities, as I am pretty sure they will be very interested in this

Hmm... I've been thinking about recreating Nethack (or something like it) in Sauerbraten... I wonder if it's possible to just reuse the maze generator in Nethack and work from there... :)

Wow, DF in Cube would totally rock. I have fond visions dancing in my head now of visiting Boatmurdered and seeing the carnage in wonderful, full-spectrum 3D. :D
