#1: Well OK but...

by Bascule on 03/10/2003 16:39

like piglet said in the other thread, you need information about the modification.

Your site has absolutely *no* further information about any aspect of the mod except CTF, and that's only if you get a coder, (unless you include 'great lightning [sic], great maps, great skies and great textures).

I'm sorry to be so negative, but there is really nothing there to form an opinion about, so therefore feedback is a little difficult.

#2: Oh, and sorry again...

but don't spam every thread with your idea, just this new topic will be fine.

#4: No apology, but...

by Bascule on 03/12/2003 10:02

... I admit I may have been a little too harsh.

With an episode or a series of maps, you can get away with saying that you are going to release a fantastic pack, show a few screenshots and ask for people to just wait and see.

However with a mod, for anyone to be interested, you at least need to have outlined the concept of what is going to *different* from the base game, otherwise is is not a mod. That is what is missing from your site.

To even start thinking about a structural change to the game mechanics, you should have a concept of what you are going to end up with, even if that changes by the time of release. It would be good to let people know what that concept is. Randomly throwing a few coders and mappers together does not make a good mod, if it makes one at all.

I would love to see what you are planning to do, even if it's an outline concept.

what exacly do you mine when you say "concept" ?
Can you tell me what you mine ?

If you want to know , every thing is going good and its 95 % clear that we are going to have a CTF . We will maby have a dominion and objectif missions (dont think CS here) and since we want to be original , were trying to come up with a new game mode never done .

Bye

frank,

you are not going to have any single-player element/maps? :(

reply to this message

#7: Right...

by Bascule on 03/13/2003 09:01

... we're getting somewhere now!

By concept, I mean what is the theme or world or environment that the mod takes place in and what are the mechanics.

For example:
A mediaeval themed, puzzle-based shoot-em-up;
Futuristic multiplayer-only CTF;
Realism mod with strategy and tactics to the fore;
Single player outdoor/terrain-themed shoot-em-up against only bots;
Alien-themed, warehouse-based crate-em-up with multiple alien hordes attacking from all sides;
Candyland style fairground levels with all violent weapons replaced by cute alternatives and big fluffy bunny rabbits as the monsters...

OK, so the last idea was not so hot and maybe only suitable for the GameCube port of Cube, but you get the idea.

Whatever you do, frank__i, please don't say that you are attempting to do a bit of all the above types, otherwise you will surely fail.

#8: Concept?@#$%^

by spentron/itsme on 03/14/2003 23:14

The picture is forming that there is no premade concept here except that a team can work together and come up with something great together. Rather open-ended, but could work if it suits the team members, it\'s not like there\'s 100 Cube mods competing with it.

For example:
\"were trying to come up with a new game mode never done\"

now , these are the thing that are sure to be in my mod :

CTF (100% to be in)
Dominion (99% sure to be in)
Objectif (kinda like aussault in UT, 95% sure to be in)
MINIMUM 20 sp MAPS !!! (100% to be in)
new guns (pistol , 99 % . One barrel shotgun , 90 %)
Elovators (99%)
better AI and mp bots ! (95 %)

Anyways , isnt it great ???

i dont feel i owe you an apology at all...

For a start I never said anything offensive, I simply gave you some sensible advice.
Secondly the advice I gave was sound, and still applies, though I must admit i am surprised at how many people you've gathered for your project.

To me your 'mod' seems to be competing in the vapourware arena, screenshots and saying 'great' a lot doesnt impress me much (read not at all) and until I see some solid proof of thought and progress i will remain unimpressed (note: screenshots acheive neither of these things)

I know i sound harsh, but your lack of direction ammazes me, and as a result I cant imagine your project will ever be finished.

Sorry for telling it like it is (or at least how i feel it is)... Piglet

i wont apologise because what i initially said was perfectly valid

however i will be impressed, and maybe even make suitable 'ooh' and 'aaahh' noises if it's as 'great' as your saying that it will be

and i'm sorry but thats my final offer :P

Okay, so I'm the coder for the project, so flame me for related stuff please. =)

Tell you what, I don't know what it'll get into, but so far I'm impressed. I've played one of the maps, and it's cool.

For my part, changes are being made to cube, slowly but steadily. Don't expect anything impressive apart from the scripting though, and some advanced MP modes. Some little things are fixed (like rockets no longer explode hitting the sky just above your head).

Well, at least, the maps gonna rule. It'll be worth it at least for that reason. =)

That page doesn't load. No 404, no DNS error, no connection reset by peer. It's weird.

Still down...

at 20:30 GMT.

It is nice to know what you are hoping to include in the mod, and it certainly sounds interesting now that details are emerging.

I'm looking forward to it now, but I'm not holding my breath...

#19: argh!

by *Thalion* on 03/17/2003 22:26

Yes, it'd been officially confirmed by the hosting provider. The servers are temporarily down. They don't give any info on whether things are doing nice or whatever...

Still, not much new there anyway. Just a more detailed feature list, and a teamlist. We're gonna get some screenshots with new weapon soon though - the modeller has done a great job!

frank__i, what people are probably trying to say that it is generally useful to make something which you actually finished and can show to others before you start to promote your project. Impressive lists from people who never actually do anything we've seen a million times before.
