Are you sure you have the proper drivers for your card installed? Preferably those from the vendor homepage.

I also suffer form the \\\"fps 9\\\" problem.
I installed the nvidia drivers but then cube gives me an error \\\"can\\\'t open opengl window\\\"
I then uninstalled Nvidia drivers but it still gave me a \\\"fps 9\\\"
I then installed Mesa-3D from sourceforge.net (a OPENGL implementation)
but still could not overcome the problem.
Please help.
System Specs :
RedHat 8.0 P3 550MHz : 128MB RAM : RivaTNT

I used to use a TNT with a yet weaker CPU. Drops to 9 in complex areas might be expected but should go way up at other times. You'll probably need to stick to 640x480. I used newer drivers than came with the card but nowhere near the latest. I don't know how that compares with a Linux version or anything about that.

i had to install mesa first then nvidai drivers and even had tograb a header file from SGI to get stuff compiling and running right
I think getting nvidia to run right is a Linux rite of passage I would use the latest drivers , read the manual and if all else fails the guys on #nvidia @ irc.freenode.net know there stuff.

I cannot manage to run the game even with the latest Nvidia drivers.
I tried running a program called 'GLXgears' which probably a test to see OpenGL working. I got an fps of 120 - 140 there. But when i installed the NVIDIA dirvers, I got an error message which was like 'Cannot get RGB'
If GLXgears can run, why cannot cube?
Please help!
((I managed to get a decent fps in XP by using the Detonator fpr XP drivers))

That program of your might had run in software mode. If the scene it renders isn't too complex, you can easily get 100+ FPS. But software mode won't work for any real game, Cube included. You need to set up the NVidia drivers to get accelerated hardware.
...or just move to Windows. =)
