Ingame Menu

People were complaining about Sauer not having a starting menu, instead loading metl4. I think I may have a solution. Anyone remember how in Quake you would go around a map to select your difficulty level? Maybe we could do something like that. Maybe have a hall for single player, multiplayer, options, etc.

One thing though- we'd need a way to access a menu via an object. It's probably possible, but I don't know as I'm not familiar with CubeScript.

Thoughts?

i dont really like the idea..
and: sauerbraten is a "map only" game.. its not possible that you start sauer without a map loading =P well and if u deleted metl4 its just a "newmap" but also a map

I remember an old Cube mod who had this \"hall\" concept.

It contained copyrighted material and I don\'t think it\'s on Quadropolis anymore.

One thing, if you manage to find it, there was fall damage and female voices, if I remember correctly.

I remember the SSP module from SauerMod had one...

Sauer actually has an option now to show the main menu on startup, which I think defaults to true.
There's an option to toggle it in the options GUI somewhere, but I found it remarkably well hidden, for being out in plain sight. :P

You mean the "show menu on start" on the first page page of the options menu, second line?

I really can't think of a way to make it any more clear. 2D Gui option obviously outweighs the startup question, so it can't be first, and making it bigger text or something would be tacky.

That's the one.

I don't know what it is, but it seems to have camouflaged itself so that my eyes skip over that one spot.
I don't think it needs to be changed, though. It's probably just me.

What I meant was selecting submenus by hitting certian spots on the map, similar to how you'd select the difficulty and episode in Quake. By the way, is there a way to change what map loads when you first start up the game?

yep, just pass -l"metl4" as a parameter on the command line, where metl4 is a map name. If you were wondering about a non-command line way, I don't think there is one.

It's in the source also, in fpsgame/fps.cpp at the very end of the file.

Place -lmapname in sauerbraten.bat

i.e., -l followed by the name of the map you want to load
