Sauerbraten Improvement

sauerbraten improvement

Redon and me (MisanthropX) thought about how we could improve Sauerbraten
here all the things we thought about

single player/Cubescript:
- a cooperative editing mode for SP maps (barrels, monsters, platforms, triggers and such things appear in Multiplayer if both have the same CFG file)
- a cooperative fighting mode for \"SP MAPS\" what allows to go on a server. start a SP map and both fight against all the monsters
- more parameter for SP things or in CFG more commands how to decide for example:

a monsters armor / hp / size / strength / weight etc
a barrels armor / hp / model size / explosion radius / explosion damage / weight
etc there are a lots of things who need more parameter what we can decide

play modes:
- if there are more teams then 2... use more colors at least only for the radar and team color
- the icon should have more transparancy if the player is too much above or under the flag/base
- the

Editing:
- please make it impossible to overwrite a default map (all they came with the release), so its not possible that player overwrites a default map with their own ... like: making a teleport to the enemys base to capture instantly. thats unfair.
- notification system if the player want to quit there should appear a gui what askes the player if he want to save the edited map
- there should be also a gui if the player will overwrite an existing map
- possibility of an autosave. can be turned off and, also deciding how much autosave maps there should be
- if someone want to make a newmap.. a notification (gui) should be sent to the actual master/admin if he allows.

Physics:
- better physics for water. if i fell off from about 5000 fts in the air, dive at least a little bit deeper then 10 fts.
- better physics for barrels/boxes ( also if it \"dives\" into water) actually it sinks like there is no water, and also ability to \"swim\" not skinkin to the ground.. depends on the setted size for it in the CFG

GUIs
- better menues.
- a rgb into whatever changer (for example: rgb into particle color.. or fog color )

we know .. some of things are maybe impossible or too advanced
but we want to help the developers of sauerbraten.

i can only say somthing to some of these points:

Editing:
-you can restore the default maps
-that's your own fault, but you could easily make an gui (which is imo very annoying) which displays when you try to quit
-same, but i think gui isn't possible atm
-script
-annoying imo, if you're playing on coop edit server either switch to mm2 or just save every few mins

GUIs:
-? what do you mean with better menus? you could try out the ones which are on quad like:

and one hint:
Just make the changes publish them as a mod and perhaps they'll get it into sauer. There aren't that much coding devs, so things like this are just recognized, but that's all. You have some good ideas, but not everyone has this opinion, try to convince them with making a mod, publish it and see how others react. :)

I think the maps are small enough to be downloaded from the server, although this kinda discussion is going on in other threads.

.. thats not the point

there are often guys who delete or change the map.
example: ctf. last time i saw a guy who made himself a teleport near the flags... so he can capture the flags in 1 or 2 seconds ._. but the others dont see the teleport cuz only this guy manipulated the map...

well, that's not possible, afaik you can always replace the file.
What you mentioned is called cheating, that can't be avoided with not beeing allowed to overwrite the default maps, that can only be detected by the server cheat detection.

What server cheat detection?
The only anti-cheat system I know of is mastermode + kickban.

Probably means the way the servers currently reject shots unless the proper time has elapsed, etc.

In editing mode you could hold a modifier key and outline your selection, instead of dragging across, that way, you could make more advanced selections.
