since people refuse to post some smiple system req for the mass\'s I will
Before Complaining about low fps make sure
your opengl/video card drivers are installed and working
Mimium Reqments are a Geforce 5/fx+ or ATI Radon 9600+ with 64mb Vram and 900 Mrhz cpu with 128mb of system ram
30-50 fps @ 800x600 shader lvl 0-1 Options >Gfx>shaders
----------------------------------------
Recomended are a Geforce 6600+ or a Ati 9800+ with 256 of Vram and
P4 2.0 with 512mb system ram
( note if your on any integrated video chip forget about running cube II at playable fps on most maps)
Ati driver page
Crank the shaders and enjoy :D
----------------------------------
http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
nVida drivers
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
AND for those of you that are thinking about saying (O it will run with less)
these are spec\'d the way they are so it will RUN our of the box on hardware I have listed above

#3: Minimum Requirements should be just that. |

Trouble is, those aren't the lowest hardware specifications that you can run Sauerbraten on at playable speeds. So, really, his post is a useless opinion. I don't have enough data to construct a real minimum specifications list, but I know his is wrong.

256MB system RAM
and I've played on even less, but it really is useless then :P

Again, the objection is that minimum system requirements should be just that - the absolute minimum. That's how quite a few games do it. They don't say, "Oh, it'll run on this hardware at default settings, but if you change them to lower settings, you can get it to play on worse hardware". They give you just about the minimum that you can get it to run on.
Additionally, please chill out on the language. If your vocabulary is that limited, you should probably go back and finish high school.

Which was especially the case with DiRT. It claimed an x1300 could run it, but my x1600 could only get ~25fps at 640x480 on low and with a hack to disable all HDR (which was forced on oddly)

I'm talking about DiRT there.
Sauer runs beautifully.

I have run Sauer on:
Intel P3 700MHz
256mb ram
nVidia Geforce 2 mx (64mb)
640x480
shaders off, but everything else default
it could go from 35-90 fps :D
So I think those minimum requirements should be lowered :D

Because windows is /such/ a great gaming platform. ¬_¬ Your ability to accurately test performance is crucially affected by difference across operating systems. If you don't get that, you should remain silent.
This is a waste of a thread. Someone will _always_ be able to find a way to run the game smoother on less. That's the fantastic thing about open source. The best we can hope to do is post some "recommended" specs and configurations and then let people figure it out themselves, which we have already done on the wiki. Everyone's going to be different: I'm a resolution whore, as opposed to my old roommate who wouldn't play below 120 frames per second. Putting up minimums is only going to aggravate an itch that cannot be cured.

Why would I lie about performance? That has no gain to me, or anybody else.
I would love to prove this but the specific computer (Dell Optiplex GX1) now runs Ubuntu and is with a friend who uses it to record his guitar playing and video recording.

You know celerons are the budget processors, right? They have a lower bus speed and a smaller L2 cache so the performance is very much hindered. Right now I run both cube and sauer on my current machine:
PowerMac G4
233mhz Powerpc G4 processor
GeForce 2 MX (32MB)
1.25GB RAM
Runs in 640x480 with many gfx extras turned off. And I get good fps in cube, but in sauer it really varies, from 5 fps on really, really detailed maps to a solid 40-50 fps on maps like metl4.
Please cut down on the language, nobody appreciates someone being such a jerk.
That's my two cents. Good day.

I resent that, as i run Cube 3 with 1k of ram on a 166mhz pentium pro with an nVidia Geforce 256.
Really, I get 500 fps on most maps (akroseum, skycastle) but on the really demanding ones it drops to 300 (Maps like id, firstevermap, spiralz, and metl5)
