Cube & Cube 2 FORUM

Is this my graphics card that is doing this?

by TetrisMaster512 on 07/12/2008 06:40, 18 messages, last message: 07/14/2008 02:49, 1267 views, last view: 05/01/2024 05:53

I got a PowerMac G4 and in Cube and AssaultCube the editing grid is messed up, it's practically impossible to map, as the grid is one pixel thick and you can't see what you've selected. In my iMac G3, I had no problems, so I'm assuming this is the GPU's handling of the rendering? How do I fix this?

I used to have this problem on an old ATI video card, so yeah, it is probably the video card.

Is there a workaround to this? This is an Nvidia GeForce2 MX. Getting a new card is not an option for me.

Having Vista is nothing the brag about. :P

Sarcasm is a lovely thing :)

Cube is no longer supported by the dev's so your wasting your time posting bugs on it. AssaultCube is a mod to cube and suffers the same problems as cube.

Oh, I didn't notice he said Cube. I had this problem on Sauerbraten.

Be careful of starting OS flame wars. Tone of voice does not carry across the web- if it has a different meaning in a monotone with no facial expression, then don't say it.

#11: No this is OS X

No, let's not start OS wars...

Either way the editing mode works perfectly on my iMac G3. And on my G4 sauer works too. I'll see if nvidia has updated drivers, and install them.

AFAIK, the default (and only option) width for the selector line in edit mode is 1px, a simple line. It gets 'thicker' the further it is away, and 'thinner' closer. There _would_ be a bug if it was, say, 2-3px, as I've experienced before. If that happens, it usually sorts itself out after I restart Sauer.

Are you running @ the same screenres you were on your other comp?

1. I'm not using Sauer, how many times must I say this?
2. The lines in editing mode worked perfectly on my G3. At the same resolution...
3. The lines looks worse the farther away you are, until they go away entirely.
4. Think of the lines like the dots that somtimes show on the ceiling, that's what they look like.
5. They look ugly on both the official binary and on my compiled binary. So I do have access to source code.

2*9 = x*3^x

Most people assume Sauerbraten nowadays... Cube isn't really supported at all.

I'm not familiar with the way Macs work, so I can't give you detailed/tailored help, but could it be a driver problem, i.e. are your drivers up-to-date? If so, does using an older version fix it? Also, do you have any antialiasing/anisotropic filtering forced on via the driver?

You still haven't posted a screenshot... but I'll have a stab in the dark and say disable any line anti-aliasing (GL_LINE_SMOOTH?), older apple opengl hardware did wildly different things.. You'll have to edit the source code of course.

Okay, do I just comment those lines out? I'm currently not at my mac so I can't get a screenshot. Preferably if there is a control panel that give my control over my video card that would be nice.

Thank you!

That certainly worked (sorta). I can at least edit now.
