Bots

How do I get the Bots engine working on Mac OS X? I got it over at quadropolis and can't seem to make it work, since my iMac has no internet connection, well, editing get boring after a long time of using it, and I need some classic deathmatching. I am using Cube 1, 8-29-05 release.

Bots engine? I'm not sure what you're talking about.
SauerMod? That's really old.

Sauer includes a DMSP mode, -1. Just open a map with this mode (e.g. "/mode -1; map metl4" or "/dmsp metl4") and after a few seconds, monsters will start spawning at the playerstarts. Your objective is to kill them all.

Again confusing Sauer with Cube :P

Unfortunately, the amount of support you're likely to get with something so old and unsupported is very limited. The person who originally wrote that stuff no longer constantly participates in the community.

If you're interested in the original Cube Engine technology and bots, I'd suggest trying AssaultCube, which is still both actively maintained and supported by the community. http://assault.cubers.net/

I should just stop talking now, huh?

I don't really like AssaultCube, the bots engine I guess is just the cube engine with bots. I am working on a cube mod, secret, for now, and will want to recompile the source anyway, making some changes. Maybe I'll make an Xcode project.

Well, the bots in AC are based on the original Cube bots written by Rick, so I am not surprised. Cube is a bit old and unsupported mostly these days, the answer you're most likely to get is use Sauer or AC. Both have improved codebases over the original cube sources these days.

AC does have a working Xcode project.

the xcode project i used to build the final cube release has never been passed upstream since cube was abandoned with this release.

do you still have a working cube 08/29/05 xcode project? I use Xcode 1.2. I'll need it to be compatible. The current cube Xcode I have says it can't find SDL header files even though I have the SDL.framework right in there. I am a noob at programming, so maybe some help here?

nope i seem to have it thrown away - also there were some source modifications neccesary.

i suggest using AC as it it basically is an updated cube.

could I get some pointers on how to make the Xcode file? The one I got at cube-osx.sourceforge.net doesn't work. I really don't want AC, as I need room for customization.

well, consult the Xcode "manual" ;-)

you could use the AC project as reference since they would be nearly identical, but you should need Xcode 2.4 or so.

I THINK this is where it is, but AC CVS is a mess...

Use a CVS client, e.g. SmartCVS.

Maybe an older cube xcode?
