Sauerbraten 2008_06_17_ctf (Linux) doesn't work on Nvidia?

Hi,
I just got sauerbraten_2008_06_17_ctf_edition_linux.tar.bz2

and unfortunately it kills X. I can start it, I hear the music, but as it is just to launch game menu X gets killed. I already tried to use nvidia-drivers-169.09-r1 and newer 173.14.09 with exactly the same result.

Any special xorg.conf setting I need to set?
