Well, I was thinking of doing a Spanish forum, or something like that, because at least me, that I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m Argentinian I play Sauerbraten.
If anyone want to help me, come on ^^

Sorry for my bad English, hope you could understand :D

Si entiendo ;)

I don't think a dedicated spanish forum would be a good idea, just as one for any other language would be.
The community is small enough as it is already, and further seperating it would probably not be a good idea.

I think however that these forums really need a major overhaul, with sub-forums and the like. It's not like that is hard to set up or anything like that...
And in that case a spanish sub-forum would of course be a good idea.

Not to belittle Spanish-speakers or anything, but I don't think that there're many people in the Sauer community that speak better Spanish than English.

I'm pretty sure that if there's a large(ish) group of people that speak another language better than English, it'd be Dutch or German or something.

¿por qué no utilice un traductor en línea tal como babelfish? Ellos aren' t todo el que malo. :)

I like them how they are. These are probably my favorite forums, because they're quite usable, and they're very very simple. Why add unneeded complexity?

OMG, French forum.
Well, seeing that, I must think that I should wait for the spanish sub forum or else, because maybe it's right, spanish it's the "less talked" language in the forum :/

I agree with you, but I also think we can group with a few people an spanish forum, at least external to this...

Please, contact me at piojete@gmail.com , I want to talk to you about an idea I had recently..

#10: proper forum

by SATAN!@# on 06/23/2008 02:10

Someone made a comment about the need for a proper, conventional sauer forum here on the site, and I fully and completely agree with it.

This current 'forum' feels more like a concept experiment some engineer thought up one day :P It's an interesting approach, but ultimately does not, I think work out well. I would go so far as to say that this current 'forum' impedes communication.

Gazillions of people have already solved a lot of problems before us: we don't need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to forums.

I don't know about that (reinventing the wheel). It seems more to me like we have a forum that is just a wheel, no more or less. It doesn't have anti-lock brakes or anything, but it turns, which is what it's supposed to do.

What does everyone honesty expect to get out of a new set of forums? Here are the reasons I've heard before, in no particular order:
-Avatars and Signatures... I don't think they'd really help communication. They're bandwidth hogs, fluff, and a pain to moderate, so why do people seem to want them so bad?
-Edit Function... This one makes sense, I see people bemoaning the lack of edit functionality all the time. It's the only *good* reason I can think of having a forum change.
-Formatting options (bold, lists, hyperlinks)... We have an autohyperlink system, and there are plenty of old fashioned way to add emphasis and format your entries.
-I-lost-my-cookie-and-can't-get-my-name-back syndrome... you should have used a real email the first time. Tough cookies.
-Search function... for some reason, a lot of people seem to miss our search function. Why is that?
-Categories... I admit that this is helpful for finding answers sometimes... but the docs are vastly superior. If people can't bother to RTFM, I doubt they'll go looking for a thread that answers their question (this ties into the above comment).
-User information/profiles... what, the IP not good enough for you?

I don't know. In the list above, I could only think of one that I would find truly beneficial. Most of the rest are just meaningless fluff.

I agree with this. Other than lacking an edit/delete function, there's nothing wrong with the forum setup.

-I-lost-my-cookie-and-can\\\\\\\'t-get-my-name-back syndrome... ok wat if I am not at my home pc and want to check on the latest sauer news on my break or something am i expected to waste time restoring my cookie on another system when i could just login with a user name and cookies are not all the secure "not that it matters to me anyway but...."

but EDIT and formating would be nice
I will even get a copy of vbulleion or invasion power board if needed some times less is not more :D

You can just look at the board without re-creating the cookie. The only thing I see the forums needing is an edit post function. There's no need for some huge overblown piece of bloatware, really. This forum works, but an edit function would be nice.

but then i need to sift thought all the post's "sometimes over 1000" just to read the one i wan't
also the forums "curb appeal" should be considered some look at the simplistic setup and turn tail and run sub forums
custom per thread text search and the like provide better organization making posting and finding the info you need quickly fun and easier IE sticky READ BEFORE POSTING containing known issues fixes and work arounds would cut down on the "WHY DON'T IT WORK" threads the current forum is overly simplistic and hurts the current members and new comers alike " point I have been trying to make for ages "P"

You're too lazy to click a link, type your email, and then do one copy-paste (which, by the way, is exactly the same amount of work as clicking a link, typing a username, and typing a password, if not less work depending on your password strength)?

Besides, if you can't remember the last post you read ("Oh, it was me rambling inanely about stickies") then you need a refresher anyway. I frequently review the last 20 posts before adding anything to a thread, even if I've read the last 19 before.

Also, FYI- you haven't been around for "ages". People who can remember Quad or Death Illustrated releases qualify as being around for ages.

if you bothered to read the post I said I have been asking for a better forum for ages like since i joined "not me havening been here for ages "as for the rest of your reply

if your gonna cast your vote against improving something you need a better argument then "o simple is better cuz I am a cmd line sucking Linux nerd "or wat have you" people don't always go for simple and sweet IE the reviews sauer has gotten in the past"

this forum does the job but not much else this is a case where good enough is just not GOOD ENOUGH

and before you go ranting off on some I am a idiot tangent look at how I made my post and look at yours i made a few valid points all iget from you is a one liner

"You're too lazy to click a link, type your email, and then do one copy-paste (which, by the way, is exactly the same amount of work as clicking a link, typing a username, and typing a password, if not less work depending on your password strength)? <thats some real good trolling got any tips"

The point is.. there are some really nice fully featured open-source messageboard systems, that can be installed very quickly (takes maybe 2 hours at the very max), that are just a lot nicer than this one.
It would allow for proper sub forums (including other language ones), private messages, editing, proper image embedditing (spelling?) etc.

If a new forum does get considered, I'm all for turning off avatars and signatures.

On a lot of forums, I end up turning off signatures anyway, because the users load them up with huge images. Takes way too much away from the content.

I think this forum is here to stay. It works fine for what it is, a basic discussion board. However, just in case: Phorum!
