Sauer is on the list.. and loosing. I think if we all vote we could change that. ;)

#6: The UGA co-owner speaks

by saphira on 03/10/2008 22:01

Moving servers this morning.

If indeed sauer wins the race by the end of the poll, we will put a server up.

anyone got a decent conf file run through somewhere we can look at?

Interesting forum software by the way.

Feel free to communicate with CK @ compiledkernel@gmail.com

Conf file run through? You want to see a Sauerbraten conf file?

Yep. I havent actually done a server host yet for Sauerbraten. Ive got nexuiz and teewars servers running (or haven run in the past).

Also, for this event likely I would password the server and then be sure that the info for it is posted over on the UGA, unless you guys think otherwise.

#10: Password/Conf

Creating a Sauer server means running a command line thing, it is pretty easy:

./sauer_server -d -cN -n"Server Name" -padminpassword

./sauer_server: Path to server bin

-d: Optional, only if you don't have a separate server bin: to make a separate server bin, make server. just doing make will make a server/client in one bin, which would require the -d arg.

-cN: N is the number of players: and unmodded server can do 128 players, a modded could do a lot more, like 1024 :D

-padminpassword: adminpassword would be the admin password, not the server password: this is done another way, i forgot though. Someone knows

oops, forgot: -n"Server name" is the server name

This could be put in a shell script or batch files. and obviously on windows, it isn't ./, it is just the bin name.

We all can help with server set up if Sauerbraten wins.

Cheers,
conorkirk

Thanks for the info Conor.

I dont think id remotely consider running the server on anything other than a linux box (in this case most of the 35+ machines I have , most run either Ubuntu or Solaris).

Id probably run the server on Raoh, which is a duo core 2.66 with 2 gigs of RAM.

Question comes down on wether I use my commericial line (a fract T1) or my Consumer line (my normal broadband line). Both have about the same element of bandwidth use, but my understanding is that Sauer uses very little bandwith to begin with.

Id probably only max it to the number of votes + 50% of the other two highest game votes. Which right now would be close to 75 (the test server which is alread up, is running at 64).

The poll ends on wednesday, and the event planning will take 2 days. Im up for suggestions on day of the week and time, but the server and its owner live in EST, on the Eastern coast of the US. Its owner (me) also has a 1 year old as well.

Is up and running.

Ubuntu Gamers Arena by name, hit it and see if you ping ok and such.

Ok, I've been playing insta on UGA. The ping is rather low, and the server is stable (we've just missed some babes, lol).

I agree with Chaos: free advertising for Sauer is positive (also for offering a wider range of stable servers with different game modes, and fresh people joining the community).

Oh, and Compiledkernel is a nice guy (you owe me a beer, remember! :P)

9*8? School is a far memory, eh! :P

If someone would make a Sauerbraten engine button, then I would throw it up on my Website/blog.

I have a couple of people who would be willing to put one up too.

Another good way to spread the word is more YouTube videos! Then tag them a lot :D

Why not just play with http://sauerbraten.org/sauer_logo_710.gif ? It's 710x226 pixels, which isn't an ideal set of number but still very workable.

Yep. We should have an official one, or a generally accepted one.

O.o
That's very informative :)

I'm thinking of the three or four "standard" sizes, large, medium, tiny, and maybe small, so that they could fit pretty much wherever you want on a webpage. Maybe a tiny piece of screenshot in the bg. I'll try a couple of ideas in Inkscape.

Am I missing something, or is the poll there for Google Sommer of Code, not a LAN/WAN game one.

I'm pretty sure the poll about LAN/WAN ended a while ago.

No, the actual WAN event itself was held on Saturday, we had on average about 20 players on the server at a time.

It was good fun.
