Tutorial(s)

by Megagun on 01/10/2008 20:37, 3 messages, last message: 01/11/2008 21:29, 1103 views, last view: 05/05/2024 18:51

So, thinking about a tutorial and fiddling a bit with Cubescript and a .cfg file matching a .ogz file, I quickly whipped up the following: http://home.deds.nl/~megagun/temp/tut.zip
which is a general Singleplayer Sauerbraten and Sauerbraten Weapons tutorial, which is somewhat useless but still might send a little more polish Sauerbratens' way.

It's got some improvements that need to be done (first dialog window will tell you what improvements exactly need to be done, most notable being the appearance: it's butt-ugly)

So, I was just wondering if anyone had ever done something similar earlier, and if anyone had some ideas about what a proper tutorial for Sauerbraten should look/feel/be like, which is basically what this discussion should be about.

What I was thinking about myself was a series of tutorials with the following themes:
*Weapons & Items
*Enemies (just a little introduction to all the enemy types)
*Singleplayer tips and tricks
*Advanced movement (rocketjumps and whatnot)
*Multiplayer gamemodes (possible?)
*Multiplayer etiquette (using a demo and a recording of coopedit?)
*Editing (teaching the user how to edit and giving him simple tasks to do, such as "complete this bridge" and "fix this ladder" and such).

So, thoughts? Suggestions?

there is a good deal of info/tutorials about sauer already in the ever-growing wiki. Take a look at it before you start work -

Like he said, check out the wiki. But I think you're on the right track as it is, including a map. I've thought about that before, but I'm not a proficient mapper. However, if you need scripts (ie like movie scripts) for your maps, I'd be glad to contribute in the same style as my slowly-growing Cubescript tutorial.

Better tuts are always good.
