Hi! I decided to create a new thread about my map - NYC - I'm still working on. This map will probably be the largest map ever made for Sauerbraten. I will post new screenshots here. Feel free to comment.

When I read this I instantly got 2 reactions.
The first being that I was very sorry about the terrorist attacks.
And how it is tragic that you saw the plane hit the pentagon.
The second being that It has been 7 years, few lives were lost, it should not be this scarring.
Think about living in kenya or Iraq, or any other war-torn nation.
We Americans just need to suck it up and move on.
It was tragic, sad, and unexpected.
But we need to be able to admit that we have experienced a small amount in the world of suffering.
Sorry for the hi-jack. =/
Sincerely,
VeXoR

I hate to say that a tragedy should be forgotten, but I'm inclined to agree that its staying power is too high. I want my birth day back, Vexor is right in that we need to start moving on. And I know that there are an awful lot of people beyond myself who were born on Sept 11... fall is supposed to be about babies, not funerals.

I'm very interested in seeing a beta of this map pop up. It's really an amazing project, kudos to Red for taking it on.

For those who asked, I was sitting in my office looking out the window towards the Pentagon, which was about 1/4 mile away from me when I saw a plane flying at low altitude. At first I didn't think much of it, as Reagan International Airport is nearby, but then it vanished from view and everyone in the office felt the building "bounce" for second (it's the only way I can describe it). Then we saw the smoke near the Pentagon from our conference room. Shortly after we saw armored troop carriers speeding through the streets and someone turned on a radio...
To be clear, I'm not raw over this incident in particular. I read the paper daily and am continuously amazed by man's capability for cruel behavior. For me it's not a nationalistic issue as much as an affirmation of the Bard's statement, "The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones."

OMG THATS AWESOME!!!!!! u should use the spiderman 2 game on the xbox for reference to help u make the city. but dam ur good! u have such detail in the city, and its huuuuuge! but if i were u i would put some teleporters in buildings or somethin so u can get around easier. NO, WAIT!!!! MAKE A SUBWAY SYSTEM!!!! at the bottom of the subway stairs u could put teleporters that take u around the city! it would be sweeeeeeeet! and make some way that u could get ontop of some buildings! then u could snipe and stuff! it would be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!

AWESOME IDEA!!!!!!! idk if this is even possible, but u should make it so that the city goes from night to day and back at an advanced rate, that way it would go through, hmmmm idk, 2 days on average for every deathmatch game or somethin. just a thought =D

Take it easy there GibsonSGKing!
You just made my head spin!
Also to your game idea from the city going to day-to-night kind of thing, I doubt the engine can do that, but tou can add spin to skyboxes so they look like their spining.
To the subway system,
That would be nice, but the map is so big, I really don't know about it!

You would have to have some crazy number of skyboxes and lightmaps to do a day night cycle well. There is no dynamic lighting system in sauerbraten that could handle the entire map. And with very large maps, loading a new lightmaps every minute is not really that great.
For a good subway system, a set of "dynamic" teleporters and teledests would probably have to be implemented. If a teleporter only goes to one other spot, it would be very complicated to actually get around the city. It would be much better to have a pop up menu with a list of possible destinations that a user can then select from. But that is not easy to put into action.

Using teleports as a kind of a very simplified way of imitating a subway network sounds quite fun! I like it.

I like the idea of teleporters too. Instead of a menu, you could just have a row of teleporters with signs that say where each one goes.

You know, teleporters is really good idea, but also you can make simulation of railroad by making some operations on one cube
