Who´s the best in Sauerbraten? We´ll find out month by month

As most of you might know the Sauerbraten league PSL ended because it seemed as if ESL was coming. However, the responsible persons at ESL decided not to open a league for sauer, at least not at the moment.

I´m quite done with organizing a full league because it was a huge load of work and my spare time after work doesn´t permit this anymore. But: I decided to let the PSL live again in a new kind of competition:

Every FIRST sunday of the month there will be a fight between the titleholder and a challenger fpr the title. there will be 2 modes: capture 3on3 (9pm GMT+1) insta 1on1 (10pm GMT+1). It will be "best of 2". meaning the first map is chosen by the titleholder, the second map by the loser of the first map.

in order to make this really a competition among the best, the fight for the first title will bebetween the Winners of the 2 PSL seasons, solea/Jael vs. makkE/morrkh!! and woop vs. TC.

every LAST sunday of the month is the chance for everybody to become the new challenger.9pm (capture) and 10pm (insta) you´ll play against everyone else who tries to become the new challenger too. whoever has the most frags at the end of the map, is the new challenger.

What you´ve missed so far:

solea became first instagib champion and will be challenged by QS's Khane this sunday.

TC won the first title against woop and defended against QS last sunday in capture.

the first game for the title in ffa will take place this sunday. it is going to be Khane (QS) vs. Zero (TC).

vids, screens and demos of all games at the homepage. join the fun and spec the games this sunday - if the server is full (might happen, the only bears approx. 40 ppl) watch them via CSL ;-)

update:

khane got the first ffa title, solea defended her title in insta.

solea and TC will become grand champions if noone stops them this month. get involved ;-)

there are some minor changes to the rules:
1. the block for a grandchampion is reduced to 2 months. we received a lot of feedback on this rule and decided to make sure that grand champions don´t lose the will to return. thanks for the feedback.
2. many ppl told us that they hate "big games". therefore the "big" / "public" / "all vs. all" challenger qualification games are from now on followed by quick (5 minute) 1on1´s among the best 4 (ffa/insta) and a 3on3 among the best 2 (capture) to determine the next challnger. see the bold text in the rules in the respective sections for the details.

This is what you´ve missed:

solea and TC became grand chmpions, now both are blocked for two months so others can try to make it. khane won, too. the only one who can stop him now is berk.

the qualification games for april already took place the day before yesterday. the title-matches this sunday (april 6th) will be:

ffa: Khane vs. K!NG_Berk (8pm GMT+1)
capture: sp4nk clan vs. noVI clan (8pm GMT+1)
insta: h3y vs. Honzik1 (8pm GMT+1)

we usually inform in all IRC channles we are in ourserves by posting a little message right before (=5 mins prior to) the games. the message starts with \\\"PSLbroadcast\\\" (all in one word). if you put that word on your list of highlight words you wont miss the games, without getting highlight-spammed anytime else.

for all other info visit our webpage. it contains screens, demos and forther stats of almost all games as well as some videos edited by solea, hero and coyote.

Can you move play-time for an 2...3 hours and one day earlier (saturday)?
It just difficulty to play at 0am-1am in the night, then wake ap early to go to work

well, thanks for your post.

indeed the time is not perfect, especially for people coming from russia and further east, but it is as good as it gets i guess.

the basic idea with the times is the following: saturday is not an option as many players are of the age around 25 and just have better things to do like partying on saturday nights.

regarding sunday: if i put i earlier it would pretty much exclude all east-cost americans as it gets too early for them...

i actually almost wish we could just all live in one time-zone :-)

Even if we did all live in one time zone, we'd all keep different hours. Nashaii and I live in spitting distance of each other, but our schedules are 5 hours different between wakeup and sacking.

I just wish we had more people who could commit to things like this. So many of us (myself included) have shifting obligations that keep up from committing to the fun projects like this.

We added two more sections. PSL now offers a place for you to see whos boss in CTF and insta CTF as well.

Unfortunately we had two compromises to make: the first qualifying game will have to be in team-ffa for CTF and team-insta for insta CTF, because we need a mode that allows for more than two teams in the beginning. After that we well do the usual 5 minute games in CTF or insta CTF among the best four, just like in the other modes. The second compromise is the times for the games. we rearranged all times but decided to keep them all on one day and dont stage any of them simultanuously. we believe the community is still so small that many players will like to play several modes and still believe sunday is best, although the (now) early times for ffa and insta will be a little more problematic for east coast US players (who havent participated for a long time now though).

The rest stay the same: qualifyings are every LAST sunday of the month, the "real deal" is every FIRST sunday of the month.

this means your chance to get o the track to become champion is july 27th:

6pm - ffa 1v1
7pm - insta 1v1
8pm - capture 3v3
9pm - CTF 4v4
10pm - insta CTF 3v3

(all times are german times, EST is 6 hours earlier)

Seriously, times given in UTC would be easier. Some of us don't live in Europe or the USA, and certainly alot wouldn't know their offset from those time zones, whereas most people know their UTC offset at least.

well. the times are pretty easy to find out. just click on any date on the PSL page (they should be all links) and you'll find a page that even does the math for you. i bet you just didn't see that yet.

but if that is of any help: it's UTC +2 / GMT +2 - but only until november. during winter its UTC +1 / GMT +1.
