Hi, I got Sauerbraten for my Mac (MacBook Pro) and I run it at 1280x720x24. No AA, shaderdetail 3, water stuff on, no bloom (and if it is on it takes about 5 fps away).
I get really bad performance and really weird wall shaders.
If I run it under Windows on the same computer, I am getting 150-200 fps on the same map with bloom, shaders, 1440x900x32.
Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz
2GB Ram
nVidia GeForce 8600m
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
Here is what it looks like:

I have no idea, mate, but it looks pretty ugly.
Impressed with the performance of the Mac laptop under Windows - colleagues at a local Uni all use macs and run Windows and swear by them - I wouldn't believe them, but perhaps it is true that the Windows emulation runs really well on the Mac.
Hope you get your problem sorted. Cheers.

If he's running windows under mac at such high performance, he's much more likely running it through bootcamp than parallels, VMWare or any of the other virtual machine programs.
I don't know what your problem is either, but the 8*** series is known to be rather unstable

I have no idea what causes this, on my MBP with a Radeon X1600 it runs perfect. But a quick note: Why do you chose to not run it with native resolution?

It seems to be a shader problem... do you have all the latest drivers?

Mac OS X has all drivers included, they are updated with system updates and can't be updated manually
i suspect this problem comes from the 8600m drivers, apple has had bad problems with the drivers for the latest ATI/nVIDIA revision, hopefully a future system update will cure this.

I myself run windows natively on my mac, runs just like any other pc running windows(if not better ;).
My brother also has trouble with the shaders, his new mac runs leopard. when i turn the shaders off the game runs fine.

I am running Windows XP SP2 through BootCamp.
And turning shaders off still gives me horrible performance.

it's not emulated. it IS windows, because the new Macs are x86s, the same architechture as a windows PC, i.e. PCs!
your mac is a PC, hehe :D

i tried sauer in windows xp, the frame rates were high but i was getting these odd lag spikes every few seconds. It didnt look as good as when i played on mac, and some of the levels seemed new to me. In one of the rpg maps there werent any people or enemies....(there are when i play on my mac)
i think my drivers and every thing are pretty up to date. i have played nextgen games on windows so idk.

The reason the monsters don't show is probably because you forgot to run sauer with the -grpg tag.

I have the very same machine and the latest official version of sauer runs just fine. Same speed as on a similar windows machine.
I also use 10.5
