Request: Sauerbraten Winter/Snow-edition

by ffff on 11/08/2007 14:25, 39 messages, last message: 12/16/2007 04:50, 9213 views, last view: 05/18/2024 11:19

I want snow! Snow on the ground and sonw that is falling from the air, rain and wind would be cool to. Will someone implement this sometime or how is it planned? What do you think about it? Raise your voices for snow in sauerbraten in this thread! ;)

Well a "particle" edition with improved particles would be pretty cool indeed.

But for now all the other improvements and new weapon models by geartrooper would probably already justify a new stable version.

I'd rather see rain first myself. :)

I THINK there's a map on Quadropolis with rain effects on it, something to do with particles.

OK, there is, but you need the CVS version of sauer.

#5: ice

by ATIRULE on 11/08/2007 16:34

omg that would PWN a ice/snow shader that could make things slippery and look like Real ice and could Blend with the water.

so u could have ice floating in water and have the water partly frozen

Ah! Perfect, that works in the last full release too (for the rain). Thanks for the pointer.

Added it to mine. It's looking more like when the marines first stormed into the abandoned base in Aliens (before the chaos). :)

Yes, there's rain in the summer release. I think snow would be just as easy to implement. The ice, not so much.

Wind would be rather pointless. It would have to effect rockets, etc. Just tilt the rain particles.

I wish the rain made little random splats tho, but it looks really nice as-is and doesn't seem to mess up the framerate too much.

Haha

I would have never made that map if I thought it would start a grassroots movement for "OMG WE DEMAND SNOW"

WE WANT SNOW! WE WANT SNOW! WE WANT SNOW! WE WANT SNOW! WE WANT SNOW! WE WANT SNOW! WE WANT SNOW! lol or rain... i'd much prefer a global command that adds rain.

#11: Editable Materials?

by PugSchnizzle on 11/11/2007 19:02

I think it would be cool if we could edit glass better, as if it were a cube :)... because if I want to make something that has glass, I always have to work around it.

Also... I don't know if it is possible or if you even want to bother....but it would cool if like....someone could build something with cubes, and then highlight it, and turn it into a personal little map model, so you can rotate it and stuff :)

Hmm. Well, with translucent mapmodels one should be able to do that, but that's not quite my fort'e, so someone might contradict me here.
If it's possible, a simple model of a sloped window shouldn't be too hard to create, should it now?

RE: personal mapmodel

build something with cubes
mark one corner - think of it as Bottom-Left-Back -
right-click mark the corner Top-Right-Front ...
notice the cube marked in red.
press C
go to somewhere outside your mapping zone, like a few clicks down from the sky if all else is in use.
mark a cube (keep grid same size as during copy)
press V
notice the side of the selectionbox marked in white
press R and scroll your mousewheel
press X - flip
mark another cube some space away
reduce/increase gridsize by 1 notch
remark the same cube
press V
resizeable paste :)

The engine could internally:

1) /writeobj cube324324

2) convert to md3

3) texture information (not currently possible)

4) delete cubes

5) insert mapmodel.

Ironically, that is how I planned to (still plan to, perhaps) implement moving platforms in a mod I may eventually build.
