Apparently this "3rdSpace vest" (simulates being hit by bullets... O_o) comes with a game made with the Cube 2 engine! :D
You can see it a few times in the video.
"The FPS Vest is bundled with 3rd Space Incursion, a futuristic first person shooter game embedded with 3rd Space technology and developed to showcase the FPS Vest."

Commercial applications using the Sauer engine don't need explicit permission from dot3 labs, as long as they follow the restrictions of the licence they have permission for commercial usage. dot3 labs makes this quite clear.

ATIRULE:
wtf are you talking about
they would only need permission for the content, eg. sounds, music, graphics etc. not for the engine.
the license states:
Permission is granted to anyone to use this software for any purpose,
including commercial applications, and to alter it and redistribute it
freely, subject to the following restrictions:
1. The origin of this software must not be misrepresented; you must not
claim that you wrote the original software. If you use this software
in a product, an acknowledgment in the product documentation would be
appreciated but is not required.
2. Altered source versions must be plainly marked as such, and must not be
misrepresented as being the original software.
3. This notice may not be removed or altered from any source distribution.

You've been here how long and you still don't understand how the license works? You really are a "nub".
Just out of curiosity, did they commission do3labs to make the exploding barrels, or is that their own work? :)

It looks like the fist got replaced with a crowbar. How interesting... :)
You can see it for a split second not too far past halfway, right before it changes clips.

well, we tried to keep this a suprise for as long as possible, but I guess someone had to discover sometime.
Yup its true, dot3 labs (eihrul and me) developed this game together with some people from this very board, such as kurt, mitaman and nieb, and some industry friends of mine doing art & sound, mainly.
The game doesn't violate any licenses, as all content has either been made from scratch by the team (the vast majority of it), or has been licensed seperately for use in this game.
The game plays very similar to sauer, but has some neat extras, and we think its a LOT of fun to play. It's mainly a single player game, but also has some MP content.
We created the game in little over 3 months, and its a cool example of how an open source project can result in paid work for its creators.
It should be out soonish, we're wrapping up the last issues before gold.

Forgive me if I show no idea of how this entire process works, but are you able to backport any of these new fancy features into Sauerbraten?
Anyhow I was certain this was mentioned around here somewhere before, but I hadn't seen the video, pretty cool. Now that you've mentioned mitaman helped out, it explains why the video and screenshots reminded me of mpsp6a/b/c.

so that's why it looked so damn familiar... the maps were made by the same people ^_^
Anyways, wow, a SP version of sauer. sounds cool. Will it be free for download, or will we need that stupid vest thing?

I'm just surprised it's a commercial game, would have thought they'd double the system requirements and put in prettier shaders :P

Will it still be free software? (ie: content has copyright restrictions while engine code is freely modifiable)
