Summer release Graphic Bug.

by TomCat39 on 09/23/2007 00:09, 7 messages, last message: 09/23/2007 07:13, 1273 views, last view: 04/20/2024 08:05

Ever since the Summer release there is some sort of lighting bug.

It happens immediately upon minimizing and then restoring fullscreen mode.

It will also happen over time of playing without minimizing. The first thing to go is the GUI buttons on all the menu's become black squares and the map will be a bit darker. The next map is nearly full black, and has rainbow corruptions.

The only fix is to quit the game, reopen and rejoin the server.

It usually happens after about 5-7 map switches. Or instantly if I minimize.

I'm wondering if there are logs that I can look at to see if maybe something is happening that it (the engine) already knows about and logs for developement purposes.

This is using Windows XP with an Nvidia 7900 GS CO card running Nvidia's 162.18 drivers.

The Spring edition doesn't have this issue. Not sure if that information helps.

Please let me know how I can help isolate this bug so it can be squashed.

Thanks.

Don't turn this option on in the first place.

Ahhh yeah I did check mipmaps in the GUI. Didn't realize this was the issue.

Thanks eihrul, you always seem to have the answers. :D

Thanks again.

Why shouldn't we use it? If it's inherently bad, why is it so prominent (or even enable-able)?

It is no longer prominent in CVS.

Wait, why shouldn't we use hardware mipmapping? It seems like that might give a performance boost, albeit a minor one. What's the option really for?

It only speeds up generating the environment maps. But its buggy on every driver in existence, which I only really found out after release. Just don't use it for now. It won't make the game run any faster once everything is loaded.

Got it, thanks. :)

Do you know anything about why it's buggy on all the drivers?
