Weapon Status

I need updates on the shotgun being modeled by Julius and the rl being skinned? by makke. I need someone that is willing to make a quality muzzle flash in md3 format. Yes, I could do it myself but I have a ton of stuff to complete to get the hudguns up.

High poly is 90% done, lowpoly base modeled but not unwrapped yet (the shape sucks for uvmapping :( ).

Still working on it, but I will be away over the weekend so don't expect anything in the near future.

Is makkE really working on that RL model?
Because I still plan to finish that other RL model I posted earlier some day.

A muzzle flash should be doable quite quickly... target polycount and texture size?
Hmm, maybe I can use FxGen to create the texture ;)

Maybe I will give it a try later today. If you don't get a finished model by tomorrow I will not be able to work on it for another few days, thus someone else could do it.

Oh... btw these are for player weapons only right?
The HUDguns should have their own specifically build for them.

Yeah I guess you\'re right. They will have to wait till we finish hudguns. I\'m not certain if makke is working on a rl or not.

Made a muzzleflash model and skin... yeah only a quick hack I know :(

Still needs a tag (and be converted to md3) and you can resize the skin if 512x512 is a bit too much.

Please notice the license (GPLv3), which means any modifications and "static linked" models need to be released under the GPLv3 too (loading at runtime via md3 tags is NOT "static linking").

hmm

IIRC, aard and eihrul are particularly hostile against anything licensed under GPL. You have been warned.

hey he didn't know. Heck I didn't know that. But the important thing is we're moving along. Julius I'm using that model as an example for an original muzzleflash. I looked at the model to discover my method was the equivalent of a shaved monkey's ass parading as Ed McMahon.

just giving him fair warning that GPL is not one of aard and eihrul's favorite licenses. They may add it if they can't find another one out of desperation, but I doubt that a muzzleflash is particularly difficult.

Well I could make a special excerption to the licensing of that mesh just for Sauerbraten, but I really would prefer to keep it open and simple(and I don't really see how it would affect Sauerbraten as this isn't linked to the code and thus doesn't infect the Sauerbraten code).

@geartrooper: To be honest, this is the first muzzelflash I have done and I only had a quick look at how there are done in OpenArena and Tremolous. Thus I really don't know if this is a good way to construct a muzzleflash model.
Try it in game first to check if it looks the way I imagined it to look.
I think especially the intersection could lead to problems.

Its ok I constructed some myself. They're not bad but as always in the spirit of Sauerbraten/Games the best will be used. So don't stop making.

we don't care about the license for art, we already have GPL art in sauer (the armors for example). I would recommend creative commons however, if you create new art.

What we certainly can't use is GPL code. GPL "infects" code it shares a binary with, and we wish to keep sauer ZLIB. LPGL is ok for external libraries.
