Costs?

Hey All, im relativly new to the actual engine scene, i usually just do mapping for games like half-life, jk2, q3 etc. Is this engine free? How long has it been round for and how stable is it? does it handle large multiplayer games well? etc.

it is VERY stable, been around awhile, completly free, ive seen 50 ppl playing in a large map very easily
