Attack Defense game mode

by Whitetemplar on 08/12/2007 22:08, 25 messages, last message: 08/29/2007 02:21, 3793 views, last view: 05/04/2024 17:05

Im now working on a map where a attack/defense game mode can be played, for creating this mode i just need spawns for team1 and spawns for teams2.
In the map you have somes bases, when your team control a base you spawn next to this base. The objective is to take the enemy first base by walk on.
If people like this project it could be added to sauer...

#6: capture the flag ?

by Whitetemplar on 08/20/2007 18:44

My idea does not seem to be great..

But i have an other idea, it's to make a capture the flag game mode on sauer.
I have try to make a map :

Players spawns on their bases.
They must take the enemy flag, and return him to their flag.
It's an other idea to make groups attacks.

ctf...why cannot people give sauers "capture" mode a good try? It's a lot of fun if you play it with people that want to do more than run like mad and shoot everything. Capture mode is fun when played with tactics...something ctf doesn't really require.

come on people, CTF is getting old ;)

How can you say CTF requires no tactics? How else are you going to get the flag and bring it back to your base?

i would have to say that the capture mode now requires alot less planning or tactics mainly because the enemy can spawn anywhere at anytime.

You never even have a chance to plan a attack, which probably wouldnt happen in sauerbraten anyways because its so fast paced, but still.

Since the spawn points are always changing as well, you cant ever have a set base to defend and one to attack. Its more like run arround and capture whatever you can having no idea what the rest of your team is doing.

Im not saying current capture mode is bad but there should be another alternitive for people that enjoy traditional ctf.

Mmm. I was just playing some insta capture on Summer earlier today (well, it's yesterday now), and nobody had any clue what anyonw else was doing. It was just grab what you could, and it was very much a tug-of-war between the teams. One team would get several bases, then they'd slip back.
The base capture doesn't require any tactics. Capture-the-flag does require some (the flag carrier needs support), but still not a whole lot.

One thing I would love to play is a mode like UT's Assault, though I don't see it happening. That'd definitely make a team out of everyone.

In CTF, all you need to do is get the flag and run like crazy. Since this is an online game, many players won't have a clue what's going on and won't support you.
Capture is great, you have to stand by a flag for about 10 seconds, and see that the enemy does not start collecting flags at the other end of the map.
Just join once the "Conquerors" server and see what's going on.

Ctf needs tactics because enemy spawn only on an other place than the flag. You need more tactic capture where you just spawn fight and wait next a flag

Yeah, some CTF would rock. So would some TeamFortress style gameplay. Yes, you wind up with symmetrical levels, but it's *fun*.

I third the motion for a classic CTF.

Capture is a better version of UT's Domination imo.

I think having both modes is great.

I really think that was one of the biggest factures for UT was all the game modes. I mean Quake already had the fan base when UT came into the market and UT still managed to get Game of the Year over the excellently balanced and well done Q3A. I really think it had to do with game modes.

You've done excellent work putting in game modes. But I really think, quite a few players miss the standard CTF mode that has been a HUGE winner for over ten years.

I think we'd see an even larger player base is the standard CTF mode was added to the already nice range of Sauer game modes.

Yup, and its why I keep going back to AC so often, its classic CTF action is just brilliant.

The final decision on this comes from Aard. Maybe if enough people say something he'll change his mind? :)

Bases team mode kinda does this already.
AFAIK, unless your team owns no bases (and there are unowned bases in the map) you only appear at bases that your team owns.

Actually, I want something similar to Teamfortress. But a CTF mode is close enough that I can probably do the rest myself.
