Sauer needs artists!

So... think ogro and the hudguns are a little dated? Would you like to see vweps that actually match what the player is shooting?

Well, now's your chance to help!

I have tried to organize people in the shadows to get this stuff replaced, but after much time, either all our existing artists have run off or simply chosen not to get involved.

All we've got is an unskinned md3 playermodel. But it has no vweps, no matching hudguns, and of course, no real skin.

So if you think you can take a shot at making better stuff than what we've got, don't hesitate to speak up here.

Also, if you've got some improved sounds that are attributable to royalty free sources, then those would help too. We pretty much had to revert to Sauer's old sounds since the release due to reasons I will not go into.

EEP! What happened?

I'll volunteer for weapons - I can always use the practice. Characters are a little too time consuming for me right now.

Are the plans for making additional heads still in place? I have no free time at the moment, but I'll be glad to help out a few months down the road.

Sauerbraten is welcome to anything I make for my RPG project.

I've only got a couple of very low poly things at the moment in .blend format..not even properly textured yet. Not animated yet either.

I'm posting pics of things in my deviant art page...if you want them, I'll gladly give them to Sauerbraten.

Yes, I do agree Sauerbraten is in need of artists who say their work can be used in any Cube Engine game ;)

Acord, if you're interested in making weapons, ideally we need some weapons that can be used for both vweps and hudguns. I would try to avoid making them too realistic, but still keep them identifiably what they are, i.e. rocket launcher, rifle, pistol, etc. But otherwise, please do take a crack at it if you're interested. ;)

Tentus, heads wouldn't necessarily be problematic, it's just that the model itself could use a more detailed skin. The current one was just quick render in blender with essentially a solid color and some glow.

Have the HUDGUN for it be at the top right, because thats how you hold a rocket launcher, not like a normal gun ;)

But, for simplicities sake, it might be better to keep it.


Our current one looks...um... odd.

Imo they don't fit in with the Sauerbraten theme very well.. they are very well made however.

Sauerbraten's theme seems to depend on the map. On some maps there are old buildings or castles and some maps are futuristic. I don't think these weapons would be unfit for use on maps like paradigm. Plus, it's a matching set and there is a replacement for every weapon Sauerbraten has.

I can see your point, but their colour theme for example doesn't match many (if any) maps at all. They just look out of place (perhaps with the exception, as you pointed out, of paradigm).

I can experiment with Psycle and Audacity to make new sounds based on the existing ones (if the license allows it) or make new ones either "from scratch" or with a mic - I got one, costed me about $7 and haven't used it, that's really bad situation :) I think this is going to be fun but on the other hand, I'm really not a pro and mostly don't know what I'm doing. Still, if you want to go for it, email me a list of the sounds you think could be improved after going through my sound mess, you could also add some more specific instructions on how you'd like them to sound if you got time.

The Marvin2k hudguns are awesome, but the colour is awful, if they were retextured, they would be awesome for sauer, they are, like Passa said, extremly well made :)

I can make/experiment some new sounds. I was making more pain sounds before and I can send those, also weapon sounds.

I can´t do deadlines for sauer! I´m a freelancer and stuffed with work right now. Most of my free time goes for my own project but I can create some creatures and weapons or map models when I got the time.

It could have a far lower polly count if we had normal map (like bump mapping) support for models.

If eithrul or Aard is reading this, is that a planned feature... too resource hungry, to hard to implement?

I only ask as this would be a tremendous assets to have for our new character model and guns/vweps. A whole new image for Sauer.

(Of course you know this, you're not stupid and I'm sure you have a reason we're not aware of.)
