Sauerbraten Trailer

by thojoh370 on 06/30/2007 00:15, 23 messages, last message: 07/17/2007 13:55, 6341 views, last view: 05/05/2024 05:30

Hello everyone,
I've recently been creating a trailer for Sauerbraten, which is accessible here:
http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/Sauerbraten+trailer/video/x2evgr_sauerbraten-trailer
I thought you might want to check it out.

(And yes, I'm back. I've tried to avoid Quadropolis and this forum because of my anger about some of your replies to my comments. But now I've been reading my old comments when having nothing else to do, and I saw something I've never seen before. It is me who is stupid. I should accept your constructive criticism and use it to create better maps, mods or whatever I'm up to. Then I saw this strange post, that I had posted a few months after registration that included something with "Realize", and I was really surprised. How could I write such idiotic comments? Well, however. Now I am about to use your constructive criticism and then try not to be harsh to you. I am sorry for my recent behavior. I certainly hope that it will end here, today, at this point.)

This is surprisingly good.

> "Also, some deathmatch footage if you can get some decent action recorded, since it is a major strength of the engine. Other then that, its a really nice overview."

Get a bunch of players on a server and have someone in spectator record?

Although I'm surprised the editing features weren't covered. :P Especially in multiplayer.

Who cares what the majority likes?

I _love_ the gameplay of sauerbraten, and a lot of others also do. If one does not like it, noone forces him to play sauerbraten.

The player model is the new model by Geartrooper called ironsnout. He's awesome huh ;) everyone will have him in next release.

On cheating, Sauerbraten is open source so all people do is change one or two values, recompile and then are able to cheat amongst legitimate clients. Therefore it is much easier than other games, like games shipping with Punkbuster or VAC.

i was under the impression that the problem with cheating in sauerbraten comes mostly from the thin-server-thick-client architecture and not the opensource nature.

I don't know much about coding, but considering games like Counter-Strike: Source, where practically everything is server side, still get hacked, it would be a lot easier for a game like Sauerbraten which is open source, and would surely be easy to reverse engineer?

Although I'm sure the thin server architecture does make the process a million times easier.

Nah, it's the open source nature of it that makes cheats rather easy. There are still cheats that can always be done in FPS games: anything a human can do, if simple repetive task (like, uh, shooting something), a computer can generally do better. Having the source code makes it much more painless, but for popular games, only one person needs to make a cheat, and then it can be distributed so it takes a person little more effort than to download the cheat to start cheating.

The question is not whether client-side gameplay is more cheat prone, merely the TYPE of cheats that are more common with it.

I have some experimental changes for the next release aimed at reducing certain types of cheats, but certainly not all cheats... basically just the ones I found dumbasses most commonly annoying other players with. Between this and mastermode, I figure the game will become much more playable in that respect, but then again, I expect to be proved wrong. There are no limits to human stupidity.

Usually it's just to make people mad. Myg0t combines cheating and microphone spamming and calls it "raging".

If they want to seem like a pro I assume they would create an aimbot and play mostly instagib since an aimbot wouldn't be nearly as useful in the other game modes.

It would have to have pretty good AI to play the other types of games

Nice trailer, except it suffers from the youtube syndrome: one third of the video is slowly scrolling credits. Not many people are interested in those ;)
